Portraits aren’t about fixing. They’re about seeing.

I’ve updated my website to better reflect how I work and why I do it. If you’ve ever felt that your photographs don’t quite match how you feel in real life, you’re not alone. The camera sees differently than the human eye - it flattens, exaggerates, and interrupts.

My job isn’t to change you. It’s to help the camera see what’s already there.

I’ve updated my page, My Approach to Portraiture, to explain exactly how we bridge that gap. It covers:

• Why “polish” isn’t the goal (presence is).

• The small, intentional adjustments that make a portrait feel recognisable.

• Who this work is best suited for.

If you value accuracy over trends, I invite you to read it. It might just change how you think about your next headshot.

Crediting the photographer is a quiet act of rebellion. ✊

In the age of Generative AI, "perfect" is cheap. Connection is rare.

When you tag the photographer on your new headshot or portrait, you are drawing a line in the sand. You are saying: This image required trust, a shared moment and it was made by a human, for a human.

The magic isn’t in the camera. It’s in the space between us.

So... if you value us, please reinforce it by naming the hands that made your portrait and help us keep the art human.

Posing isn’t about looking stiff. It’s about feeling safe.
For two years, I photographed 100 women for The Common Thread Project. The sessions were quicker than you'd think. How? By taking control. When I guided the pose immediately, nerves settled. My sitters realised they didn’t need to perform. They were in safe hands.
I often wished I could listen longer than the clock allowed. That tension taught me everything.
This new studio direction isn’t a sudden change; it’s a move I’ve been working towards for some time. It's The Common Thread that has actually given me the clarity to understand my strengths and how I can serve others best. It's also given me the confidence to jump in and only offer that.
So, I've built my Ipswich studio around that:
~ One session per day. No watching the clock.
~ Posing as safety. I guide the energy so you can just be.
~ Clear boundaries. I create a space of psychological safety, but I’m not a counsellor. This is portraiture, not therapy. My role is to reveal your presence, not to fix what isn’t broken.
This work is for those folk who are ready to drop the performance and be seen clearly. If you’re currently focused on hiding or changing who you are, that’s okay - it just means this might not be the right time for us to work together. But if you’re ready to meet yourself in the lens? The results can be truly transformative.

Intentional work for those becoming more and more themselves.
