I want to start this as I have written this via other news articles being posted and will tag where I have I have pulled infomation from same as the photo we have posted with this.
Today is a sad day for the Newcastle, Central Coast and Hunter.
The WIN Network who has taken over NBN and Nine Darwin (Nine Darwin has been running out of NBN for a while) had promised a future for regional journalism, but instead they are cutting local news and axing the weekend bulletins, and that in itself puts peoples jobs at risk.
For the last 6 decades, NBN News has been the home for the hunter, losing this form of regional news is a devastating kick in the guts. not to mention pushing it back to 5:30pm, when so many people are used to it being at 6pm.
As the Newcastle Weekly puts it, āStories that affect the Hunter, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland and Central Coast cannot simply be replaced with content produced hundreds of kilometres away in Sydney.ā
Just like us, we cover things as they are happening, the Redhead Fire to name the biggest one, 2AM in the morning all the way to 3pm in the afternoon we were covering that, Just like NBN News was in the late morning, covering what matters to make sure people are safe and pushing the messages out that need to be pushed out.
With 3 local MPs already putting their thoughts in to how much it is a dog act to say hey we will do this but now we are just pulling the rug from under you.
We work along side NBN News as part of the business we run, and we come across alot of their camera operators and their reporters and journalists. They are an amazing bunch of people and their jobs are now at risk due to this flip that the WIN Network has decided to do.
