I never could have imagined the places my camera would take me seven years ago when I started learning photography.

Now it feels like a real gift to be able to use it to share the stories of our planets wildest corners, and the animals that live there, with you, my online community. So than you for being here, and supporting my journey.

Let’s see where my camera takes me next.

My entry for of a gentoo penguin flying towards me.

This shot was one of the most challenging photos I’ve captured, firstly because of the conditions that you need to align. The ocean needs to be glassy calm and you need to get down to water level, by hanging over the edge of the zodiac.

Next you need penguins swimming straight towards you at speed and porpoising.

The final ingredient is a camera with bullet-proof autofocus. I shot this on the a9 with the 200-600. These shots make hard work for the auto focus as the penguins are swimming at you between 20-30km/hr. The autofocus tends to grab the splash from when they land, yet in a manner of seconds they are flying through the air again, but much closer. For it to be able to jump forward in the millisecond that the penguin is airborne and grab focus is simply incredible.

I’m always grateful to have gear that enables me to capture my vision.

Right now we are crossing the Denmark Strait from Iceland to Greenland and it’s 5 weeks of Arctic times ahead.

The beauty of these trips is truly the unknown. Having no real idea of what we will see, what the weather will have in store makes each trip so exciting.

That unknown exists in a lot of places, but the pull feels so much stronger in the Arctic where a polar bear might pop out around any corner.

Images from the North Atlantic.

As I head back to work I’ve finally scrapped out some time to edit some photos from my last contract at work.

As I was coming to terms with my Dads rapidly declining health, I found solace in my days exploring these remote, weather-beaten landscapes.
