Creative, guided, candid pictures is what I am aiming for. One I have found the right light, the right background, and the right composition so that everyone looks good, its time to give you some space so that you can be yourselves and interact with each other so that I can get some real, meaningful images that show who you are as a family.

I think it was in the 1970’s that Kodak ran an ad campaign that said “They are not just photographs, they are irreplaceable memories”. George Eastman, the founder, understood this by stating, "Kodak doesn't sell film, it sells memories,"Many things have changed in the last 50 years, Kodak is a mere shell of the company that it used to be, and hardly anyone is using film any more, but I think, the sentiment still holds true.

Going to a new location, especially one that has significant meaning to you and your family is always a joy and an adventure for me. Having to innovative, find new locations and angles all adds to my personal enjoyment of a shoot, and you have probably guessed by now that photography is my happy place! It is always an experience to get away from our traditional locations, ( they were chosen because they offer lots of options, and because I know that we are going to be assured of great light for the shoot), But something new pushes me to do good work with whatever we find on the day.

Most people thing of having their portraits made in the same way as they think about going the dentist! which is a bit unfair because there is no needles, no drilling, no pain and no smell of burning bone! It should be fun, and we do everything we can to make it an enjoyable experience for your whole family, so that , in years to come, the images will transport you back to a happy place in your family’s history.

For the last 35 years I have been in the extraordinarily privileged position of documenting life’s unforgettable moments for hundreds of Launceston families. Images that will help define the memories of the children and grandchildren and which will become family heirlooms that will be loved and cherished for years to come.

Life is a journey and it only goes in one direction. If you miss getting photos taken when your baby is tiny, the opperutunity is gone forever, but that happens sometimes in a busy life. We are happy to offer a reminder service so that we can contact you at intervals of your choosing just to remind you , and to facilitate setting up your next shoot. And once you are a client of ours we never charge you our $150 photography session fee again, so all we need to do is organise a time and location to book in your next family portrait.

Some of the most endearing images in my portfolio are those of grandparents and their grandkids. There is a special bond, formed from a lack to constraints and deadlines, grandparents have the time and the patience that busy parents sometimes lack ( that they themselves probably lacked when their own children were growing up )

Smiling for the camera is an act. Most adults are quite bad actors, and most of the time kids don’t even try! Emotions are what makes memorable images, and they are always lurking, just behind the mask that most of us wear in public. The good news is that with just a little bit of space and the close proximity of people we love and care about, the emotions are hard to contain, and beautiful pictures are there for the taking

One of the joys of portrait photography, and why it continues to be such an important art form, is that it has the ability to capture those intangible bonds that describe the feeling of togetherness that is at the very heart of being a family. Its hard to put into words, but you know it when you see it.

I have spent decades learning how to quickly sum up the dynamics of a family group, and how to capture an impression of the family as a whole so that the portraits I make resonates with anyone who knows the people involved. I ofter get asked how I managed to capture that exact expression that is so well know to close friends and families, and the answer lies somewhere between giving everyone space to be themselves, interaction on a personal level that makes everyone feel comfortable, and the odd bit of luck!
