Sponsorship / in kind sponsorship:
I'm often approached by not for profit organisations requesting monetary or in kind sponsorship for events.
On occasion, I'm able to donate my time or offer discounted services for these events. I do this because I want to make a positive community impact as a business.
This morning I was contacted by a franchise of a nationally operating business (for profit) seeking this kind of sponsorship.
They said they would not be recieving money for for the event and any profit would go to next year's event.
This was a misleading statement and perhaps just poorly worded by mistake.
If this business is in fact a franchise, the franchisor (owner of larger businesses or company) would be receiving money from sponsorship etc from each of the franchisee events.
This organisation does run events that positively impact participants so I understand why some would like to be involved.
I write this post as a cautionary tale to all business owners, it's worthwhile to know the structure of the organisations you donate money or time to.
I am also weary of some not for profits as some pass on very little in donations and pay huge salaries to their owners and executives.
