Lenni, one of my resident Butcherbirds, and the matriarch of the slaughter, engages her nictitating membrane in preparation for swallowing, headfirst, the dragonfly I witnessed her plucking from the air moments earlier.
Whilst I didn't capture that fantastic feat, I was pretty pleased to have sprinted back to camp and got my camera in time to snap this second part of the act πŸ–€πŸ©ΆπŸ€

Full Moon Moonset at Sunrise today πŸŒπŸ’žπŸŒž

I had some technical problems taking this in that my camera wouldn't focus, even manually, when the Tamron Di III-A VX VXD was set anywhere between 115 and 300 mm which ended up with the final image having to be heavily cropped and grainy. Turns out all it took to fix the issue was a power cycle and lens reattachment, but I was far too slow witted at the time to think of it πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Sacred Kingfisher(s)

Two photographs of the same Sacred Kingfisher, on the same branch, taken within seconds of each other today, and superimposed one on top of the other.
.. Saves posting two pictures and not being able to decide on a favourite πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Make a wish! ✨

One of last night's Geminids heading straight for Orion.

I was lucky enough to see 9 meteors between 11 pm and midnight, whilst sat in a giant beanbag under the Milky Way with 29.6Β°C showing on the mercury and a warm breeze blowing from the North... Pure magic!

Can't wait for all those wishes to come true! πŸͺ„βœ¨

The ground here is littered with Marri gumnuts discarded by the Forest Red-Tailed Black Cockatoos. Most are completely intact, and it seems so wasteful of the cockatoos. That is until the red-capped parrots arrive and start their clean-up operation. They spend hours picking over the gumnuts, tipping them like giant goblets, hoping for some seeds to fall out.
