n Manly on the Northern beaches of Sydney after recently graduating his 4th and final year of the photography diploma at Sydney’s Institute of Photography, Ultimo Tafe.
“I was a border at The Scots College and really missed the beach and coast a lot so it gave me great pleasure to arrive home for the holidays. I would dream of the ocean surf and sand while gaining inspiration by other photographers in magazines. They gave me the hope and freedom needed whilst going through some harder times of the life in a boarding school” he says. For years he grew up around his father’s inspiration as an aerial photographer while helping within his business “SKYCAM AUSTRALIA”. They used radio-controlled planes to take aerials above and around Australia until moving to buy their own commercial light plane in 1995. Ben’s father “Roger Sherack”, a draughtsman by trade, built radio controlled planes as a hobby and, discovering that they were ideal for aerial photography, turned his hobby into a career and now shoots aerials for Australia's major construction companies which included the 2000 Olympic site in Sydney during the 7 years of development. To get the views demanded by their engineering and surveying customers they take a series of images using hi-end digital equipment then carefully stitching together the final picture to create a huge compose mosaic image. Seeing most of the Australian coast and his favorite surf breaks from an aerial perspective has given Ben the edge for quality angles seen through his photography. Although he had an interest in surf photography, Ben initially joined his fathers business while studying his photography Diploma at Sydney’s Photography Institute (Ultimo TAFE) to attain the experience needed for commercial photography. Ben now shoots from the land and sea, however when the volume of work is ‘high’, father and son will work together, with one piloting and one photographing. Most recently Ben has been photographing many of the International Music artists on tour Down Under and has built his respect on there stages with his abilities and AAA (All Access Areas) media passes and of course his favorite exotic location for beauty are never to far from his mind..
