What a pleasure it has been to judge at the Pioneer Valley Show Photography Competition this year and give back to a competition that has played such a significant role in my growth as a photographer over the years đ
As a family, we would race to the photography exhibit as soon as the doors opened at 10am, excited to see whether we had received a placing. Being part of this competition, showcasing your work, and appreciating the incredible talent you are up against is a feeling like no other.
As I stepped into the role of judge, I found myself reflecting on my father's words: "Judging is one person's opinion." And he was exactly right.
In an ideal world, everyone would be a winner. Every entrant has invested time, effort, creativity, and money into capturing their images, mounting them on those black cards, and getting them to the show. I truly appreciate the commitment that goes into entering a competition like this.
What I can say is that judging is no easy gig! The standard of photography on display at the Pioneer Valley Show is outstanding, and the exhibit is an absolute must-see.
My biggest takeaway is this: we all start somewhere. If you've ever thought about giving photography a go, or entering a competition in any field that interests you, what have you got to lose? It might just be the thing that propels you in the right direction. Before you know it, you could find yourself exactly where I am today â putting on the judge's hat and encouraging the next generation of talented entrants.
