I am thrilled to share I will be traveling to rural northern Tanzania late next week to photograph and film for Medical Mission Aid Inc (MMA) https://medicalmissionaid.org.au/
MMA is a registered charity that partners with local organisations to improve the health of the most vulnerable communities globally.
I will be traveling alongside 4 other professionals including Melbourne Obstetrician and incredible MMA Ambassador Amanda Ward, Melinda van der Westhuizen GAICD, Seamus van der Westhuizen and Jesselyn Sin – specialists in their own respective fields - to further the strategic impact of MMA.
We will be based at Murgwanza Hospital in the Ngara region. The 200-bed hospital was established by Australian Missionaries in the 1920’s and is the largest of 3 hospitals in the Ngara region, and services a population of 450,000 across 3 borders.
MMA has been partnering with Murgwanza Hospital since 2007 and have provided over 40 scholarships for doctors, nurses and allied health staff. MMA has also been supporting and funding preventative health education programs at a nearby school.
MMA’s vision is to see the Murgwanza Hospital provide the health care needs of the Ngara region, through an improvement in hospital facilities, staffing and infrastructure.
The focus of my time on in Murgwanza will be to interview people about, photograph and film stories of impact of MMA’s support so far but most importantly create materials for a potential major capital fundraising campaign to save the hospital from falling into complete disrepair.
I am very pleased to be providing my services to MMA pro bono and also volunteer to sit on their Hospital Redevelopment Committee to provide value by drawing on my diverse career experiences to date.
It’s going to be a powerful and important journey. I can’t wait!
My thanks to MMA's brilliant Executive Director, Brenton Ward and Board Chair, Barry Kelly.
