Flame Falls, A Fire That Burns Behind a Waterfall

In a small grotto in western New York, a natural gas leak keeps a tiny flame burning right behind a waterfall. Yes, fire and water together.

This surreal sight is called Eternal Flame Falls. Sometimes the flame goes out, but hikers often relight it. It is one of the very few places on Earth where fire and water coexist so closely, naturally.

’s Glasswork: The Skeleton Flower

Did you know there’s a flower that turns transparent when it rains?

Diphylleia grayi, also called the Flower is found in the misty mountains of Japan and China, its white petals become clear like glass when touched by water, revealing the delicate veins like a skeleton. Once dry, it turns white again.

The Immortal jellyfish — The Turritopsis dohrnii

When faced with injury, starvation, or aging, this tiny jellyfish can reverse its life cycle — transforming its adult body back into a polyp (its baby stage), essentially starting life over.

This rare ability, called transdifferentiation, means it can theoretically live forever, unless eaten or killed by disease. It’s the only known animal capable of this biological reset.

Found in: Oceans around the world (originally discovered in the Mediterranean)
Size: Only 4–5 mm
Studied for: Aging, stem cells, and longevity research

This ant has been infected by Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, a parasitic fungus that hijacks its host’s nervous system.

Once inside, the fungus manipulates the ant’s behavior, forcing it to climb a plant and clamp its jaws onto a leaf or twig. Then, it kills the ant from within and a fungal stalk erupts from the ant’s body, ready to rain spores on the forest floor and infect the next victim.

It’s one of the most terrifyingly elegant survival strategies ever evolved.
Found in: Tropical forests
Victim: Carpenter ants
Fungus: Ophiocordyceps unilateralis
Studied for: Neurobiology, parasitology, and biocontrol

are vanishing.

A global study found that habitat loss, light pollution, and pesticides are pushing many species toward extinction.
They blink less now. Some don’t blink at all.

For thousands of years, their glow filled summer nights, but now, that quiet magic may disappear, in our lifetime.

Looks like something from another world 🌍✨ – this is the Dragon’s Blood Tree in Yemen’s Socotra. Found nowhere else on Earth, its umbrella‑shaped crown shades both itself and young seedlings below while the tree produces a striking red resin known as ‘dragon’s blood.
