What are you trading off for the fake, posed photo?

Because every 15 minutes spent making something staged, you could’ve spent getting something real instead.

Not performed. Not prettied up. Just honest moments that actually happened.

So I guess it comes down to this: what feels more worth it to lose?

The real parts of the day? or another version of the same photos everyone’s already seen a hundred times.

And if those natural, unplanned moments matter to you more…
then you should say hello to me! Because that‘s what I find far more meaningful then any of those cookie cutter templates.

We normalised “romance” that doesn’t actually look like romance and nobody questions it anymore.

If it didn’t actually happen, why should it look like it did?

The problem is most wedding photos are built from the same formula, so they are starting to look identical no matter where they are taken.

I’m just hoping people realise wedding photos can also be about the ones that still feel true years later. Because what I captured ’actually‘ happened, not staged.

“We want to look back and remember how it felt to be alive.”

“We don’t want to perform.”

“We’re doing this for us, not for Instagram.”

I hear this from couples all the time. Honestly? It’s a breath of fresh air.

If you think those internationally looking same photos are super valuable, or if you need for someone to tell you how to tilt your chin or ask you to put your earrings on three times for a “perfect” shot, I’m not your guy.

The most meaningful photos aren’t the ones we staged. They’re the ones that happen while you’re actually busy living.

The wild, messy, unscripted parts you didn’t even notice me catching.

No shows. No fake scenes.

I’m not pulling you away from your favourite people just to tick off a shot list.

Just live the day. Be yourself. I’ll do the rest.

My biggest nightmare? A bride settling for something ‘generic’ simply because she didn’t know an alternative existed. And it’s been happening, even right now.

Google ‘wedding photos’ and you’ll see the same thing over and over. The couple, dead centre, staged, and rehearsed. It’s a cookie-cutter loop that honestly feels super empty.

Let‘s be honest. The room is wild, bursting with life and so much happens that you’ll inevitably miss while you’re in the moment.

That’s why I don’t just follow the bride and groom like a shadow. Instead, I react to the raw energy of the day.

To me, these honest, unscripted moments hold a million times more value than any ’staged perfection.‘

Looking for the like minded ones who crave something real.

Hey! Brandon here, the face behind WhySoGeneric.

Bite-sized facts about me (but happy to tell you more over coffee of course)

– Born in Korea but don’t trust most Korean BBQ joints in Melbourne. Charcoal grill + my golden hands? Way better.

– Lived in Harlem, NYC for 3 months just to jazz bar hop and take photos. ()

– Die hard fan of ACDC, disco, and that chaotic 80s/90s/00s mix on YouTube.

– Played violin and piano growing up. Still do sometimes.

– Been a Nintendo kid since the Famicom. Super Famicom, N64, you name it. Mario Kart battle? Anytime. Just bring some tissues with you.

– Love whisky. Always neat. Monkey Shoulder’s the go to but wouldn’t mind something fancier sometimes.

– Long blacks or Cold brew. Anything with milk? pass!

– Not into karaoke. Possibly the least Korean thing about me but hey, set a date and I’ll prove I’m dangerously good

Isabelle & Andrew’s wedding is getting featured on Polka Dot Wedding!

Here’s a little celebration post with everyone who was part of this wild and wonderful day.

Isabelle and Andrew skipped all the cookie cutter stuff and filled their day with things that actually made sense to them, from DIY moments with friends and family, to a zebra print carpet aisle, disco vibes, Jimmy Choos, a green tailored suit from Kyoto, Japan, a tasteful mullet, and a veil handmade by Andrew’s mum.

Every detail had a personal touch.

They served cannoli to honour Andrew’s Nonna, handed out Jellycat bunnies to the kids (made with the same fabric as Isabelle’s veil), and gave the little ones disposable cameras so they could snap their own fire pics. And when the lights went down? The dancefloor turned into a full blown disco.

These two kept things fun, real, and completely unfiltered, and honestly, that’s when the best photos happen.

I’ll drop the Polka Dot Wedding link here as soon as it’s live. You’ll wanna see the full story. It’s a good one.

All this happened in just 15 minutes — dinner time at Beena & Declan’s wedding. Golden hour hit, everyone lined up for some proper Pakistani gourmet, and beautiful traditional live music filled the air. Good vibes. Good food. Unreal.
