I don’t know how old he was when we got him back in April 2020, maybe a year or so, but he lived a good life and will be missed.
RIP Big Boy.

Gary is a spotted turtle dove who hangs out in our front garden 🐦. She has absolutely no nest building skills whatsoever. For the last three years we’ve watched as tragedy unfolded. This year she must have taken a class or something because she fashioned enough sticks together that, while still a hot mess, managed to hold an egg and hatchling for about a week.

Unsurprisingly though, the baby fell out. Gary, whose problem solving skills and maternal instincts are equal to that of her nest building skills, shrugged and with a wave of her wing flew off to nap behind the aircon. See you next year, I guess?

But then we found the baby huddled under a bush, not able to fly but not really in injured either. We gave it some water and some seed and then a towel for warmth and then we moved it to a safer place and somehow a couple of days later it’s still alive. So I guess we have a bird now. 🤷🏻‍♀️

DAMNIT GARY, come get your kid!!
