A little appreciation post for the dads.

The baby holders.
The toddler wranglers.
The shoulder-ride providers.
The human climbing frames.
The snack carriers.
The ones who say they “hate photos”…

…and then absolutely bloody nail them.

📷✨🫶🏻

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, stepdads, grandads and father figures I’ve had the privilege of photographing over the years.

You might not always be the one organising the photos, choosing the outfits or sending me the enquiry…

But you are such a bloody important part of them.

Hope you’re getting thoroughly spoilt today.

And to all the little people who think Dad is primarily for climbing on, being thrown into the air and stealing snacks from… carry on. 😂

Spring is officially here 🌿

And September is already shaping up to be a very busy month in the studio.

September has long been one of Australia’s biggest months for babies, and I’ve got LOTS of newborns coming through the studio over the next few weeks.

It’s also always the point in the year where everything suddenly seems to speed up. Before you know it, it’s Christmas and we’re preparing for the new year!

So if family photos were on your “we really need to do that this year” list, now is the time to get something in the calendar. I’m already booking sessions across October, November and December, and the end of the year tends to fill quickly from here.

And if you’re currently growing a tiny human, I’m already booking newborn due dates well into 2027. You don’t need to wait until baby arrives to organise your session. I recommend getting in touch during your second trimester so there’s plenty of flexibility around your due date.

Mostly though, I’m just very excited for a month full of tiny humans, warmer days and the start of outdoor family session season again.

Bring on spring 🌿

I’ve been sitting on this session for far too long and it’s about time it made its way out of the drafts folder 😜

I photograph so many different families in so many different stages, and I think sometimes I get caught up trying to think of something useful to say about every gallery I share.

But really, sometimes I just want to show you a few gorgeous photos from a session.

And I really, really loved these ones.

Hope these beauties find their way to a few of you tonight 🩷

Becoming a mum didn’t suddenly make me a different photographer.

But it did give me a completely different understanding of the people I’ve been photographing all these years.

And there are a few things I definitely understand differently now. 🤍

This was a technically a ‘newborn session’… but baby’s older brother absolutely stole a few moments of the spotlight.

Little Artie was everything you could hope for as a photographer - calm, content and those perfect tiny newborn details I could photograph all day long.

And then his big brother Ziggy stepped in full of personality (like he always does). He was completely switched on from the moment the camera came out. He just gave us EVERYTHING, in a way that makes everyone in the room just smile and laugh.

This is our fourth session together, and Mama said the same thing she usually does; “He loves coming here” and “You always get the best out of him”.

I never get tired of hearing it.

It’s one of my favourite things about this job - seeing kids surprise everyone like that in the best way possible, especially in the middle of something so important for the family.

Baby brother was the star of the day obviously… but big brother definitely had his own little moment too…. and here’s the proof 🥰

At a viewing appointment in the studio today, I was sharing the most beautiful gallery with a family I first photographed when their eldest was brand new.

Now they’re a family of four, with a gallery full of heartfelt moments, toddler chaos and beautiful smiles. But Mum kept coming back to this one photograph of herself holding her nine-day-old baby girl against her chest.

She loved it.

But she kept saying, “You can’t see her face.”

And she was right. You couldn’t.

But we know who that baby is.

We don’t need to see her face to remember the weight of her in Mum’s arms. The smell of her. How tiny and new she was. The feeling of finally holding this little person against her chest.

So I asked Mum what it was about the photograph that kept pulling her back.

And once we talked about what she loved about it, she realised it wasn’t really about what she could see.

It was about what she could feel.

And suddenly, it became one of the photographs she couldn’t leave behind. 🤍

An unsettled baby, a toddler who wants to do anything but be in a photo, or a family who arrive telling me they feel awkward in front of the camera? None of it rattles me.

After more than 15 years of photographing families, I’ve seen just about every version of a session.

Babies who don’t sleep.
Toddlers who refuse to sit still.
Kids who need time to warm up.
And plenty of adults who are convinced they’re awkward, unphotogenic or have no idea what to do with themselves.

But you never need to apologise to me.

Your children don’t need to perform for the camera, and you don’t need to know how to pose or suddenly feel completely comfortable having your photograph taken.

Experience has taught me how to slow things down, give you enough direction without making everything feel staged, and work with the family in front of me.

Because I’m not trying to capture a polished version of your family.

I’m there to capture you as you are.

The personalities, the connection, the chaos and all the little things that make your family yours.

If you've found your way here recently, here's what I hope you know about me.

I’m not here to create the kind of family photos where everyone stands in a perfectly straight line, smiles at the camera and says cheese.

I'm here to create the ones that stop you in your tracks and give you all the warm and fuzzies. The ones you’ll look back on six months, six years or even sixty years from now and think...

*I remember that.*

The way your toddler wrapped their arms around your leg.
The cheeky grin they gave when no one else was looking.
The way your baby fit perfectly in your hands.
The laugh your partner gives that only your family gets to hear.

Those are the moments I'm chasing.

The beautiful photos are just the bonus.

So if you're looking for a photographer who'll happily embrace the chaos, make your kids feel like they're just playing, and help you walk away with photographs that actually *feel* like your family...

I think you'll fit in just fine here. 🤍

Can we normalise posting just one photo to the grid again? 😂

Even as a photographer (who has so many gorgeous sessions waiting to be shared), I sometimes put off posting because I think I need to pull together 10 perfect images, the perfect caption and the perfect timing.

Meanwhile, I’m also a mum trying to survive the endless snack requests, the laundry pile, answer emails, edit galleries, remember what’s for dinner and wrestle a toddler who thinks sleep is optional.

So today, you’re getting one photo.

Because one is better than none… right?

Tell me you get it. 😂
