Feat. fungus gnat pollinator

An orchid endemic to eastern Australia, its name derives from how it droops over. Releasing a kairomone, it attracts male fungus gnat pollinators due to its similar chemical properties to female fungus gnat pheromones.

Tree Candling 🔥

A method used to reduce fire hazard and lower the intensity and impact of bushfires. In this case, burning the bark of stringy bark trees to reduce their excessive fuel load. A great opportunity to see this in action from the CFA.

White Wallaby, a genetic mutation of the Bennett's Wallaby (Notamacropus rufogriseus).

Prior to our Tasmania trip in 2025, we had heard about the population of white wallabies on Bruny Island. With only 3 days on the island we were hoping to see them.

On our final day we were starting to give up hope. A last minute decision to not walk up to the Cape Bruny Lighthouse and to instead cruise back to our accommodation meant a chance encounter with this white wallaby who was in a paddock on the side of the road.
