The breathtaking “Opera Mundi” by the incredibly talented Yann Nguema illuminates the sails of the iconic Sydney Opera House for this year’s Vivid Sydney.

As someone who photographs both the built and natural environments, I found this installation especially inspiring. There’s something incredibly powerful about seeing the beauty of the natural world projected onto one of the world’s most celebrated architectural landmarks, a reminder of how deeply connected our environments truly are.

Despite a rainy opening night, Circular Quay was buzzing with energy, and it was wonderful to see so many people experiencing the magic of Vivid.

Wishing a beautiful Mother’s Day to all the incredible women and caring hearts in this community. 🌸

Today is a reminder to celebrate the people who nurture us, guide us, support us, and bring warmth and beauty into our lives in ways both big and small.

To the mothers, grandmothers, mentors, and gentle souls who lead with love, strength, kindness, and care, thank you for the way you help the world feel softer, brighter, and more connected 💖

As Christmas settles in, I just wanted to say thank you.

2025 has been a big year, both professionally and personally. A year of early mornings, late nights, meaningful conversations, creative projects I’m deeply proud of, and moments of quiet joy in between. I’m incredibly grateful for our clients, students, and guests who have been part of it.

This year has taken me behind the scenes of inspiring commercial projects, into the field with photography workshop guests, and alongside curious, generous people who love seeing the world with intention. Every collaboration, every conversation, every shared experience has meant more than you know.

As I take a short pause over the holidays, I’m already looking ahead to 2026 with excitement. There’s plenty of travel on the horizon, new photography workshops and journeys in the planning, and thoughtful commercial work ahead that continues to celebrate the harmony between place, light, and story.

For now though, it’s time to slow down, recharge, and enjoy the festive season.

Wishing you a joyful Christmas and a bright, wondrous year ahead. I can’t wait to share more with you in 2026.

Have a wonderful holiday,

Lydia ###🎄✨

Stunning views of Melbourne’s skyline from Crown Melbourne taken during a sunrise shoot.

If you’re visiting Melbourne, or even if you live in Melbourne, like me and want to stay at a fabulous hotel, I highly recommend Crown Melbourne. The views, rooms, service, day spa and restaurants are all simply amazing! And for an insiders tip, I highly recommend booking a room that gives you access to the Crystal Club, you won’t regret it!

Boom! 💥Lights, music, fireworks 🎇… and just like that, Vivid Sydney is officially on.

Opening night was an explosion of colour and creativity — and scenes like this are exactly why I’m so passionate about photography. Capturing moments that make you feel something? That’s the magic. ✨📸

There’s a magic that happens just before the sun slips below the horizon… ✨

As an architectural photographer, I’m always chasing that golden light — the kind that wraps around buildings and makes them glow from within.

R.Iconic in South Melbourne was built to stand out, yet it fits naturally into its surroundings. I love how the sloped roofline echoes the sun’s angles and how the mirrored glass facade catches every hue in the sky, turning the entire building into a canvas of light and colour. It’s thoughtful architecture that honours both form and function.

Residents of R.Iconic are lucky enough to enjoy a lush rooftop garden designed by landscape legend Paul Bangay or access the private 300m running track — all without leaving the building. Pretty incredible, right?

Here’s to the joy of witnessing the built and natural environments come together in perfect harmony 🌅

Have you ever let your imagination run wild, picturing the iconic sails of the Sydney Opera House painted with the late John Olsen's captivating art? Last night, that fantasy turned into reality at the amazing launch of Vivid Sydney! What a magnificent start to the Festival!

The real joy for me was connecting with four photography enthusiasts from near and far during my first photography workshop of the Festival. Now, let me share a slice of wisdom that has guided me on my own journey: Passion is the key. If photography is your passion, don't let obstacles deter you.

It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking, "I don’t have a fancy camera," "My photos don't turn out the way I hope," or even, "I don't have a partner to join me on shoots." Trust me, we've all been there.

I remember my early days with a Nikon D610 (which, by the way, I think is still a fantastic DSLR). Sure, many of my photos didn't quite live up to my expectations. Being an ESFP personality, I love being around people, so embarking on solo shoots was also taking me out of my comfort zone while my fellow ESFP friends were more interested in partying than capturing moments through a lens.

But here's the thing - nothing comes close to the exhilaration I feel every year photographing Vivid Sydney. That's why I urge you - chase your dreams, persist with your passion, because life is too short to settle for anything less.

If you're interested in learning how to capture the magic of Vivid Sydney, irrespective of your camera model or photography experience, I invite you to one of my Vivid Photo Workshops. While tonight's workshop is booked out, there's still room on other nights. Just follow the link in my Bio for more details.

Hey, I know I may have been a tad bit quiet recently, but let me tell you, there has been a whirlwind of activity happening in my life offline. From working on some amazing commercial shoots (the details of which
I'm unfortunately sworn to secrecy, thanks to those pesky NDAs) to prepping for an upcoming event that I simply can't wait to share with you all!

And now, here's the big reveal: The event that I hold near and dear to my heart, Vivid Sydney, is about to kick off again in a few days' time.

For those of you who know me, you know how passionate I am about making photography accessible and fun for everyone, regardless of age or skill level. It's this passion that drives me to run my exclusive workshops in a way that's unique and personal, almost like a little family gathering.

So I have planned some of these exclusive workshops for this year's Vivid Sydney. I am bursting at the seams to share the details with you all! If you're already getting excited and want to know more, do give the link in my Bio a quick visit. Over the next few days, I'll be revealing even more about what's in store.

Oh, and before I go, I want to share a few glimpses from last year's Vivid ✨ Believe me when I say, Vivid Sydney outdoes itself year after year. Can't wait to experience it with you all once again!

After a two-year hiatus, it’s great to see the Vivid Festival back and to see so many people out and about in Sydney!

This year, the Lighting of the Sales (the projections onto the Sydney Opera House) is the incredible work of eight Martu artists from the East Pilbara region titled ‘Yarrkalpa – Hunting Ground 2021’. Simply breathtaking work 😍
