Step into the fascinating miniature world of mushrooms and fungi with Glenn Smith Photography in this immersive half-day workshop at the Australian Botanic Gardens, Mount Annan.
Designed for photographers who are comfortable using their camera and want to explore macro and close-up photography, this workshop focuses on the creative and technical skills needed to capture striking fungi images in the field.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is ideal for photographers wanting to:
Explore macro and close-up photography
Improve their creative use of light in nature photography
Learn focus stacking techniques
Better understand shallow depth of field
Capture more detailed and atmospheric images
Whether you photograph with a DSLR, mirrorless camera, or advanced compact system, this workshop will help you gain confidence in photographing small subjects in natural environments.
Learn how to work with shallow depth of field, apply focus stacking techniques for greater detail, and use lighting creatively to enhance texture, mood, and atmosphere within your images. Glenn will also demonstrate how coloured gels and light positioning can dramatically change the look and feel of a scene.
The morning begins in the classroom with an introduction to:
Understanding shallow depth of field in macro photography
Focus stacking techniques for close-up subjects
Creative lighting for fungi photography
Using coloured gels to create mood and atmosphere
We then head out into the gardens to put these techniques into practice with hands-on guidance from Glenn while photographing fungi and natural details throughout the gardens.
Returning to the classroom, Glenn will demonstrate the basics of post-processing and focus stacking in Photoshop, showing how multiple images can be blended together to create a final detailed photograph.
Running from 8:15 AM to 1:00 PM, this workshop provides plenty of time to photograph, experiment, and learn in a relaxed and supportive environment.
With more than ten years of workshop experience in the Australian Botanic Gardens, Glenn knows the best seasonal locations and how to help photographers at all skill levels improve their images and confidence behind the camera.
Each participant receives a set of written notes to take home.
To ensure personalised guidance throughout the morning, workshop numbers are limited to a maximum of 12 participants. A minimum of 4 participants is required for the workshop to proceed.
