We started off looking for shadows on York Street, but then we got sidetracked — because once you begin noticing light and shadow, everyday things start to become remarkable 💫

To look at a photograph and wonder how that same scene may have appeared 100 years ago is at the heart of Adam’s story.

The shearing shed on his property dates back to the 1860s—one of the oldest in the state. Built from sun-baked clay bricks, it stands as a quiet witness to generations of work, change, and rural life. Through his images, Adam captures the character of the shed, using light and thoughtful composition to draw attention to the details that hold its history.

A gorgeous, feel-good photo story about an energetic dog’s dash to the beach.

It’s a reminder that storytelling doesn’t need to be complicated—some of the best photo stories come from weaving creativity into your everyday routine.

Sometimes we arrive at a location and quietly think… there’s not much to photograph.
But then we stay a little longer.
We walk. We look.
Because the more time you give a place, the more it gives back.

When Jess Downer from Mt Barker shared her photo story idea with me — I admit, I wish I’d thought of it myself!

She was photographing a local wildlife rehabilitator, affectionately known as The Snake Lady whose home is filled with pythons, lizards… and birds. A fascinating character and a perfect subject for a portrait story.

Jess captured the story on her smartphone. And me? I made sure I captured the behind-the-scenes.

I wasn’t going to miss out.

Moments like this remind me that great stories are everywhere — and sometimes my role isn’t to take the photo, but to recognise it, support it, and watch someone else bring it to life.

Jarvis Smallman was just 12 years old when spent the evenings out in the bush near his home capturing the nocturnal life and fascinating critters in a series of nature close ups.

This was just the humble beginnings for Jarvis who is now an award winning wildlife and ocean photographer 🫶

His work is incredible, check him out on Instagrams.photography

How you choose to photograph a subject — and the sounds you pair with it — can completely shape the story that’s told.

Meghan from Ravensthorpe explored this idea in a powerful way. She believes dogs spend too long confined in backyards and homes, so she set out to communicate that using her own dogs.

By shooting through mesh, doors and gates, she created images that made the dogs appear trapped and unhappy. She then layered this with audio of her dog whimpering as she stood outside the gate.

It’s a strong reminder that images and sound don’t just document reality — they influence how it’s perceived.

The Story Threads visual identity is built around the concept that every person carries a story and that when these stories are shared, they interweave to form something richer, stronger, and deeply connected. The brand mark and supporting design system visually express this philosophy through simplicity, symbolism, and intentional imperfection.

The primary logo brings together two contrasting typographic styles to reflect the essence of Story Threads, a balance between structure and spontaneity, clarity and humanity. The word “Story” is set in a bold, confident typeface, representing the grounding foundation of storytelling and the strength and significance of lived experience. In contrast, “Threads” is intersected by a free-flowing, hand-drawn line that moves through the letters like a physical thread being pulled, stitched, or woven.

This organic line introduces a distinctly human presence, evoking the gesture of a hand guiding or tracing meaning through each narrative. Its subtle imperfections speak to authenticity and care, reinforcing that the stories shared are not polished constructs, but expressions of real people, real moments, and genuine emotion. The thread becomes a quiet symbol of connection, weaving memory, voice, and experience into a shared and evolving narrative tapestry.

Story Threads logo was designed by the very clever Megan from: Clever Octopus 🙌🏻
