Gary has been taking photographs for over 35 years and has always focused on emotive landscapes and travelougue imagery. He has lived in UK, USA and Australia, currently residing in Mount Victoria in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, using it as a base to build up his catalogue of the rich local scenery, world travel & fine tuning his production technique. He has worked as both a professional po

rtrait/wedding photographer and in the early 2000s a photojournalist for local London tabloids alongside his Exec Producer BBC job at the time. His pictures have appeared in magazines, stamps, exhibitions, TV, Multimedia and newspapers. The Photographs
Gary tries to find beauty in our world and has travelled extensively in Central Asia, Europe, US, Hawaii, Australia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Canada, North Africa, Turkey and many more places. His work varies from travel, abstract, landscapes, street photography, studio portraiture, virtual worlds, musicians, events and much more. He enjoys capturing the land bathed in glorious sunrise or sunset light in less trodden places. Prints are available to order online at http://garyphayes.com/photography

Equipment
From his late teens he spent many years using medium format film cameras including Mamiya RB67ProSD & 7 series, Pentax 67 and Fuji plus he used a large format 7×5 inch camera for a few years too. Gary became proficient in medium format chemical darkroom techniques through the 1990s but in the early 2000s was one of the first photographers in London to switch to professional digital with the Canon 10D. He currently uses Sony A7rII, A6000, Fuji X100s & Canon EOS M as his main ‘location’ kit but sometimes hires medium format film panoramic cameras for commissioned shoots. He currently uses a 4×4 Toyota to get deeper into the Australian bush and is often seen walking back through thick bush in the near dark after another momentous sunset session. He has a range of printers in his photo and music studio and he uses local printers for very large prints.

Good Weds Morning Blue Mountains! - Sunrise 10 001 (referring to actual sunrise trips vs days alive!) - even though with the road closures, my business activity being heavily impacted, one always has the colours of nature and amazing views to tide me over!

This mornings prediction showed a decent amount of high cloud, so couldn't resist another 545am start and as the clouds hung around was able to carry on shooting until 730am.

"All the lessons are in nature. You look at the way rocks are formed - the wind and the water hitting them, shaping them, making them what they are. Things take time, you know?" Diane Lane

Taken this evening ( ) up on a wintry Mount Banks, lots of other compositions but I like the ancient foreground rocks here, wethered by 100 of millions of years of rain and wind - 100 of million years before any humans arrived.
