An Eildon barrel from the beginning of winter! ❄️

Exploring new water can be VERY hit and miss, and this trip was definitely one of those times. We ran our 100Ah 24V battery completely flat, running around flat-chat trying to find a concentration of fish.Final morning, we finally got it done on an absolute barrel of a fish! 💪

Smashed the XL homemade fly 🪶 - making all those long hours and flat batteries worth it!

Dirty water has made fishing tricky in the dark for me but when it's your only time to get out you have to make the most of it. Big girl was cruising the w**dedge and fell victim to home made XL articulated fly. Been an awesome season, hopefully can sneak one more in before the conclusion. 🤙

The way this fish ate really opened my eyes to how these fish hunt and position themselves around the available light! 🌕🎣

This fish was caught on the night of the full moon, and you could see him anticipate exactly where the lure was going to be so he could eat it head-first.

I actually pulled the lure away when I thought he’d lost it based on prior sessions and how they were eating in a moonless night, but luckily he came back for another crack after a quick reposition. This time I slowed the lure down and let him absolutely engulf it!

Love the learning curve that comes with chasing these true ambush predators.

Chunky fish found stalking the w**d line, nose-up and waiting for something to wander into the moonlight for an easy meal.

She munched a big 1/4oz, 400+mm homemade fly tied specifically for this situation. First crack at an articulated fly and she was pretty rough around the edges, but it caught some solid fish!

A lot of refining has gone into the pattern since then 🪶
