Getting ready to leave Wooleen Station after an amazing trip!

67 bird species

6 lifers
- western quail-thrush
- black-breasted buzzard
- chiming wedgebill
- crested bellbird
- pied honeyeater
- stubble quail

(Plus a pallid cuckoo in Canna makes 7 for the trip!!)

I couldn’t decide which emu to post…. So I’ve posted both 🤣

Now for the long drive back to reality and big cuddles with my family 🥰

Beautiful budgies near Morowa on our way to Wooleen Station

Having an awesome trip so far, have ticked off some lifers - Crested Bellbird, Chiming Wedgebill, Black-breasted Buzzard and Pallid Cuckoo ✅✅✅✅

Not even broken boots can dampen our spirits (see story 🤣)

Going through my archives from Rottnest Island and found this gorgeous Sacred Kingfisher. There were quite a few on the island at the time and they were quite happy to pose

The star of the show…. These little beauties have been on my hit list for quite a while, I was absolutely STOKED to see a flock of around 30 in and out of the water all around us 😍

The absolute highlight though was when the Star Finches and Zebra Finches joined the show, all three species drinking and bathing together 🤩🤩🤩

Happy World Wetland’s Day!!!

Here’s a throwback to the early days of my bird photography journey in 2011… back when I had no idea what birds I was photographing, but I still loved them!!! It’s amazing to go through old photos and ID birds that I hadn’t realised I’d seen 🤣

These are from Kakadu, mostly from the Yellow Water Billabong. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the safety briefing as we started the tour “keep your hands inside the boat, the life jackets are here….. not that they will do you much good….” 🫣 😬 🐊

Budgerigars

I was absolutely blown away watching a flock of several hundred budgies flying in and around the fields near Perenjori.

I was driving down the road and and saw a few small, green birds flying out of a tree on the side of the road. My heart almost stopped in excitement and anticipation…. Could it be??

I pulled over and walked back to where they had settled and there in the tree was about 20 budgies!! I was stoked! AND THEN another small flock flew into a different tree, then a MASSIVE flock flew overhead and into the field…. There were HUNDREDS flying in and out of the roadside trees, powerlines and landing down in the field 🤩 it was absolutely incredible to see! I couldn’t believe my luck!

Brown Goshawk

There were 3 of these beauties hanging around Camel Soak, when I first arrived all three were sitting by the waterhole, it was a lovely welcome! It was incredible watching the smaller birds reactions when one flew by

Chestnut-rumped Thornbill

These cuties were flitting and hopping around everywhere. They are super quick, I love watching Thornbills

Pink Cockatoo

It was absolutely amazing to see a flock of around 30 Pink Cockatoos flying around the waterhole. Even with us in all of our camo gear they were very shy and hesitant to come down for a drink. I was trying SO hard to be still and not make any unnecessary movements or sounds, and my shutter is SUPER loud, so I was very nervous to even take this shot in case I scared them away
