Port Macquarie

Shot during the day, using ND filter and polariser. The cloud cover was ideal and with the light filtering through to provide wonderful highlights on the rocks and water. I was just hanging out to be honest and things were seemingly a little lacklustre until that light came through and everything changed. You just never know!

Little Park Beach - STockton

SHot is a blend of three images to expose correctly for the shadows and highlights. I planned this using PhotoPills and positioned myself on the beach knowing exactly where the moon would rise to ensure I got the shot. It was the first time I had actually done that and was really pleased with the reults - proving the effort of planning is worth so much more come the time for the shot!
This was shot at 400mm using a70-200 with 2x teleconverter

Iris Moore Reserve, Port Stephens

I went to Iris Moore Reserve in Anna Bay, Port Stephens NSW specifically to capture the Milky Way rising in the south east. In this image, I captured separate sky and foreground shots including some light painting frames using my torch on the headland rock formation. Whilst capturing the sky image using my star tracker, I couldn't work out why the Milky Way didn't go all the way to the horizon. and just as I was finishing up for the night, the 1/4 moon started to rise so I captured an image of that before moving the tripod, so that this was in register with the rest of the frames from the night. It was as the moon rose that I realised that smoke from the Hill End bush fires was thick on the horizon and this was the reason for the Milky Way gap on the horizon. I then edited the images in Lightroom Classic and composited in Photoshop to create the finished image you see here.

Nobby's Beach, Newcastle.

It was pre-sunrise and I was up early for work. I hadn't been out to photography anything for over a month, so that's what drove me to take this shot. And, I made the most of it by heading to one our most iconic places, Nobby's Beach & Nobby's Lighthouse. This image was taken at 05:25am at the height of the Summer season when colours are amazing and the Earth is refreshed from the day before. This is a single 30-second exposure at f/10 with an ISO of 160. I edited it in Lightroom and left the ghosting birds to show movement through time. I lifted shadows, lowered the highlights, and selectively masked many parts of the image for an even, controlled finish.
