It's been a long hiatus on the socials, but it hasn't been due to a lack of adventuring! We spent the best part of January checking out some mostly new (for us) parts of northern NSW, and we'd have to say that Gibraltar Range NP has fast become one of our favourites. An awesome mix of granite peaks, lush rainforest, and big rivers. Here's a couple of clicks from a three-dayer in the southern escarpment. Enjoy!

This week, we've been out and about doing a few much-needed local walks in Tomaree National Park. We're lucky to be in an LGA where this is possible, and it's been great to get back out into the bush, even just for a few hours, to recharge and enjoy the fresh air.

Some more photos from our overnight walk to the Kelly Range in Arthur's Pass NP. Pretty standard NZ scenery: big river valleys, rugged mountains, alpine lakes and snowgrass-covered expanses. Martine was actually struggling with a viral illness at the time, and managed to battle through the big climb. Needless to say, when we reached camp, she completely vegged out! Not a bad place to veg out, hey?!

Enjoying the spectacular Mt Kaputar wilderness, on the traditional lands of the Kamilaroi people. In October last year, we spent three days walking throughout this unique volcanic landscape with two of our favourite adventure buddies. During that time, we reflected on the many motivations for getting outdoors and doing what we love (which varied between the four of us), as well as the numerous benefits that arise from doing so. We turned it into a piece called "Nine Reasons Why", which you can read about in the upcoming Wild Magazine Issue 181. You might even see a few of these pics in there too!

Our last adventure before lockdown was to Alum Mountain in the beautiful New England National Park. While not everything went to plan (in fact, it was quite disastrous!), we walked through some spectacular antarctic beech forest - a definite highlight of the trip. Antarctic beech forest would have to be one of my favourites to walk through!

Time to start planning for post-lockdown adventures again!

Last weekend, we visited the beautiful Royal National Park for the first time. We were surprised at the diversity in the ecosystems within the same park, from dense rainforest to stunning coastal scenery with towering cliffs and sandy beaches. We'll definitely be back for more!

During our weekend on the Newnes Plateau recently, in the spectacular Dharug country, we visited Acoustic Canyon for the first time and were thoroughly impressed. It's such a pretty little walk-through canyon and, tragically, is currently unprotected and environmentally threatened by local coal mining proposals (see Protect Gardens of Stone)! The walk was also the perfect opportunity for us to test out our new KEEN Footwear Australia shoes! A big thanks to Abby for sorting us out with the Targhee Exp Mid and the Terradora II; they passed the test with flying colours and stood up to the rough demands of canyoning! Also, a shout out to Clothing The Gap for the awesome new shirts; get behind them, it's a great cause!
