Last Friday was Day 1 of the 3 day Farewell Festival of the . Huge thanks to for kindly bringing me along.

It gave me the opportunity to return to a place I hadnt been to in awhile, my spiritual home - the photo pit at a hip hop show.

Because of my long absense (and because I had a AAA pass) I unapologetically stayed in there for Illy's whole set.

Suffice to say I've had Swear Jar, Catch 22 and Papercuts in a tiny little playlist stuck in my head for almost a week now and seeing the forever classic Aus Music Month Medley live was fu**in dope.

Shane Howard, Moss, Tasman Keith and Willian Barton for the recent reimagining of Solid Rock.

If you havent heard the song yet - I highly recommend getting yourself around it.

40 years (give or take) since Shane penned the original at the foot of Uluru, Moss weaves together Goanna's timeless music, a wild drum n bass drop, William's Yidaki all of which is then clarified by the gravity of Tasman's verse to create something that is both 'ancient and modern.'

On the conversation we recorded for Rollingstone Australia Shane laments how little advancement there has been toward the Sovereignty of First Nation's People since he wrote the song in 1982 but tells Tasman and Moss that he's hopeful for the future.

Given that the song was made 'remotely' and that these 4 guys hadnt been in a room together for the whole recording process, its hugely gratifying that despite everyone's busy schedules we managed to get everyone together in the same place at the same time to tell the story around the song and share in this moment.

As - air quotes - "Content Creators" (🥸)we tend to be churning work out at an insane pace to meet various commercial deadlines moving to the next thing too quickly. But I made it a point to reflect on this one for a bit longer before saying anything about about it because in the moment of creating these portraits (there are more) it felt like there was something quite historic about it. And I wondered if that feeling would fade away after it was out in the world. It hasnt. Still feels huge. Probably even moreso...

Muph and Plutonic Lab Album Launch for Silence the Sirens. And (I wanna say) Heat Nightclub (I don’t know what its called now) for the Figures of Speech Album Launch.

After all these years there he is, right in my archives, larger than life. I didnt know him that well. Truth be told, I was more than a little intimidated by the man the few times I met him as I navigated those wild days of West Coast Hip Hop as a relative new comer on the scene hiding behind my Nikon D70.

He had this magnetic energy that took over the whole room. No regret, no surrender, no apologies.

I didnt get to know him that well. But if you were there in 2012 at the first Robert Hunter Cup when the entire Hip Hop Community, nationwide; came together to celebrate his life and legacy; you know what an impact MC Hunter continues to have.

I was playing around with some images from my shoot with Jen Kate Horvath in Adobe Photoshop Express on my bloody Robinshowedup.

Like; Im really happy with the image - otherwise I wouldn’t post it. And obviously - as we all know its all about the what than the how and the creative vision and all that good stuff.

But seriously; I remember this kind of illustrative work taking absolute AGES to create.
