My exhibition will go up next week along with all the other students at Tafe . I don't know if it will be open to the public yet but I will share the pictures with you incase you were interested . I will also include the Artist statement which we had to write :
My images focus on understanding divergent viewpoints by reflecting on mental health and disconnection of society. It explores the challenges imposed by autism in a world neither suited nor sympathetic to the cognitive processes of someone with Asperger’s.
The images are a depiction of a life appearing to be lived in a dream state. Sometimes this can be serene and comforting but at other times hectic and overwhelming, when people with autism step into the frantic rat race of a world of people equally focussed on their own concerns and oblivious of what is going on in the minds of those who are not neurotypical.
The illogical and somewhat fanciful juxtapositions bring shape to the abstract and formless imagery inside my subject’s mind, and turn that confusion, that dissonance between worlds, into a vision that allows others see the world through different eyes.
The photographic medium has allowed a composition of ideas and imagery that portrays the capricious associations that often find their way into thought processes, inviting an audience to consider alternative perceptions of the world and perhaps empathise with those for whom such a flow of ideas is commonplace.
There are another 3 alternative process pieces I will share with you next week when I collect them . I hope you like the images , please ask as many questions as you like .
