How has it been a whole year since this gorgeous little girl came into the studio for her cake smash!?

Aubrey had the sweetest little pink cake smash setup, complete with balloon backdrop and cake.

And of course, we can’t forget that strawberry-red hair! Mum lovingly calls her Aubrey Strawberry, and honestly, with hair that colour, it’s pretty much the perfect nickname.

She brought all the smiles, plenty of personality and just the right amount of cake-smashing chaos.

Looking back at these photos a year later, it’s crazy how quickly these little people grow. One minute they’re tiny toddlers covered in cake, and the next they’ve changed completely.

Before you meet your baby, there’s this beautiful little window of time where it’s just you, your growing belly, and the excitement of wondering who is about to change your entire world.

The nursery slowly coming together.
Tiny clothes hanging in the wardrobe.
That first little pack of nappies sitting there, just waiting.
Counting down the weeks… then the days… and wondering who this little person is going to be.

You haven’t met them yet, but somehow you already love them more than you ever thought possible.

The anticipation of becoming a mum for the very first time is such a special season of life and it goes by SO much faster than you imagine.

Before long, you’ll be holding that tiny baby in your arms, and this beautiful belly that you’ve spent months waiting to meet them through, will be gone.

That’s why I love maternity photography so much.

It’s not just about taking beautiful photos of your bump. It’s about capturing the waiting, the excitement, the anticipation and the woman you were just before you became Mum.

Because one day, you’ll look back at these photos and remember exactly how it felt to be waiting for them.

There’s something I absolutely love about giving my newborn clients their images in both colour AND black & white.

Because while they’re the exact same moment, the two versions can tell such a different story.

Colour feels warm, soft and alive. You see all those beautiful little details — their creamy skin, the tiny pink lips, the softness of their blankets and wraps. It brings a little more life and warmth to the image and makes you feel like you’re right there in that moment.

Black & white feels completely different. It’s timeless, emotional and a little more intimate. Without the distraction of colour, your eye goes straight to the connection, the expressions, those tiny fingers and the beautiful little details that make your baby your baby. There’s something about black and white that can make an image feel almost nostalgic, like a photograph you’ll treasure for generations.

And honestly? I could never choose between the two.

Some images just belong in colour, while others become something really special when they’re stripped back to black and white.

So rather than making you choose, I give you both. Because you never know which version will make your heart skip a little when you look back at these photographs years from now.

Sometimes, simplicity is the most beautiful thing.

Beautiful light, a gorgeous little baby, a gorgeous Mum feeding her baby and a calm, timeless studio setting... Nothing complicated, just those sweet little details that make your heart melt.
