It was great to see so much of the WA screen industry come together for the recent Perth Film Studios Open Day.

ARRI Australia was there showcasing the ALEXA 35 Xtreme, Signature Primes, Ensō Primes, Omnibars and ARRIMAX, with plenty of opportunity to get hands-on with the latest ARRI camera and lighting.

A huge thank you to our friends and industry partners who helped make the day such a great one. Cinemachine Motion Picture Equipment and Raz Studios .au both had ARRI cameras and lenses on their stands, while Dan Stone was putting the ARRI Hi-5 through its paces with studio demonstrations. Dan Spriggs also provided invaluable support and showcased a great range of SkyPanel X and other ARRI lighting equipment.

And of course, thanks to Perth Film Studios and West Coast Crew for bringing the industry together and opening the doors to the studios.

It’s always a pleasure to get the equipment out into the hands of filmmakers and crew, and to have those conversations that happen when everyone gets a chance to see, test and talk about the technology in person.

Thanks to everyone who came by said hello, and took a picture with the big lamp.

“The Alexa Mini is such a workhorse, and the fact that it can still compete with many of the newer cameras that have come out over the past few years is honestly amazing.” — Harleigh English, Cinematographer
Nominated for Best Short Film in the Orizzonti Shorts Official Competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, this intimate short, directed by Jessica DiCosta and shot by Harleigh English, was captured on the ARRI ALEXA Mini with ARRI/ZEISS Master Primes.

“The ALEXA 35 was the obvious choice for peace of mind. It’s compact enough to hike with, incredibly reliable, and I’m yet to see one go down on a shoot.” — Aaron Farrugia, Cinematographer
For Icebreaker's latest winter campaign, cinematographer Aaron Farrugia and director Luca Strano ventured across New Zealand's South Island, capturing everything from helicopter-access mountain peaks to remote hiking locations. With demanding conditions and limited access, the ARRI ALEXA 35 delivered the reliability and portability the production depended on.
The ALEXA 35 once again proved its worth atop snow-covered mountains in temperatures below -10°C, handling snow flurries and harsh conditions without missing a beat. Its exceptional dynamic range preserved detail across brilliant sunlit snow and deep shadowed cliff faces, allowing every texture of the landscape to be captured with ARRI's signature colour science.

“The Omnibar is quickly becoming the right tool for the type of jobs I work on. The versatility of its form factor, amazing colour science, output and ARRI-renowned reliability integrated seamlessly into both studio and location workflows.” - Marcel Breed
For Gaffer, Marcel Breed, the ARRI Omnibar has become a go-to fixture across studio and location productions alike. It’s compact form factor, versatile rigging options, and strong output make it equally at home as a key light, accent, practical, or hidden source.
What stands out most is the flexibility. From integrated mounting points and magnets to interchangeable optics like the Intensifier, the Omnibar adapts easily to challenging setups while maintaining the colour quality and skin tones ARRI is known for. Add 32 pixel zones, and it becomes a powerful creative tool for everything from commercial shoots to LED volume work.

“It never got in the way of intimacy or story. It just quietly held the emotion in the frame, so I could stay focused on people and moments instead of the image.” - Stephanie Senior, Cinematographer.
For In a Sentimental Mood, director Saskia Glass and cinematographer Stephanie Senior crafted a visual language rooted in intimacy, nuance, and emotional honesty. Pairing the ARRI ALEXA Mini LF with ARRI Signature Primes, Senior was drawn to the camera's natural rendering of skin tones, gentle highlight roll-off, and immersive large-format aesthetic, creating images that felt human, textured, and deeply connected to the story.
Working collaboratively, Glass and Senior developed an approach that embraced proximity, texture, and character. One of Senior's favourite creative elements came through a series of environmental title-card portraits, placing subjects within spaces that reflected their identity and story. The combination of the Mini LF and Signature Primes allowed these moments to feel both intentional and effortless, where camera and creativity worked in complete harmony.
For a documentary centred on jazz, restraint, feeling, and improvisation, the camera became more than a technical tool. As Senior describes it, much like jazz itself, the Mini LF excelled at capturing the spaces between things; timing, texture, imperfection, and the subtle details where emotion truly lives.
