"Gators big and small" - whether they're crossing the trails or watching from the marsh they are a constant fascination for visitors and locals. Most times when I'm walking the trails I'm asked by visitors, "have you seen any gators?" They may not always be easily visible under the duckweed and vegetation in the water, but you can count on it...they're there! Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, Florida

"Muscovy family bath time" - Nothing seems to make duck families happier than splashing around in the water together! Ducklings were so distracted while drying out afterwards that they didn't notice that mom had walked away. "Young squirrels free at last!" - Getting stronger, faster, and more agile by the day...these three babies are growing up under mom's watchful eye (some of the time). They are now playing and fussing with each other outside the nest hole, finding food from the palm tree, and grooming themselves and each other. It was difficult to leave them wondering what they'd do next! 😁 Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, Florida

"Mama Gator to the rescue" - While filming hatchlings chirping in the marsh I knew that mom wouldn't be far away, but I couldn't see her. Little did I know she had been in the lake across from where I was standing on the trail. She had probably been taking a swim or on the hunt for food. She gave herself away while climbing up from the water to the trail...breaking branches and scraping her body on debris along the way. With me in her sights she paused, watching as I backed up. Her response was not aggressive, but deliberate as she crossed the trail and into the marsh to protect her hatchlings. Fortunately, mom didn't need to fight to protect her young this time. With dozens of babies vulnerable to predators like birds of prey, wading birds, fish, and even other gators, she is always on high alert. Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, Florida

"Waiting out the storm...me and the gator" - I wasn't too far away from shelter when I heard the thunder rumbling and came upon a blocked trail. Unfortunately, the gator was in no hurry to cross and the rain was coming fast so I found cover and waited it out. After the rain stopped, two guys walked right past me, blocking my view and sending the gator to the other side. Fortunately, I was able to capture some of the 10-second crossing. You never know what obstacles you'll encounter along the way! 😅 Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, Florida

"Beauty in all shapes and sizes" - baby squirrels starting to venture from nest hole with mom, black-crowned night heron hanging out near gator hatchlings, one of many golden silk orb-weaver spiders 'blocking' the trails, and a young gator resting on the trail with no concern for people passing by...just another day at this amazing wildlife haven. "Squirrel babies on the loose!" - Something warm and fuzzy to get your day started. So many sweet family moments to share between squirrel mom and her 3 babies. Lots of smooches, touches, and even moments when mom gently reigns in her adventurous little ones.
