2027

Every year I say I’m going to travel less, and every year I seem to find myself somewhere new.

Just like when I’m in a session, I’ve learnt to take it as it comes, but with everything I have going on at home, a little planning is definitely helpful.

So I’m starting to piece together the 2027 itinerary.

I’m already getting requests for Sweden, Ireland, the East Coast USA, Italy, Melbourne and Sydney, but I’d love to know where else you’d love to see me.

Where should I come in 2027?

Tell me below x

I don’t often get photographs of me behind the scenes, especially at a wedding. But if this face tells me anything, it’s that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.

I remember a similar photograph taken of me by my second shooter back in 2012; the same completely lit-up face, camera in hand, lost in what I was doing.

I’ve always had a funny ability to make myself at home anywhere, with anyone. Fourteen years later, I’m still here, still doing what I love, and still grateful for every story I’m entrusted to tell.

I got home thinking I had it all together; aside from my suitcase that was left behind 😂

Then we had Father’s Day breakfast at school, Arts Night at school, a cleaning day, food shopping and somewhere in amongst all of that my body just went, nah. Time to stop. Even just for a moment.

And honestly, I needed it. But can I tell you a secret?

Looking through these images makes me never want to stop. This is where my heart lights up. Where I feel completely on fire. Where I feel like I’m doing exactly what I’m meant to be doing.

I love photographing families. I love the little things; the hands, the chaos, the cuddles, the way they look at each other, the moments that probably feel completely ordinary to them but one day will mean everything. I think I’ll always want to remind families just how special they are.

So here’s a little look at six of the sessions I photographed across the US. Six families, six very different stories, and so many moments I’m grateful I got to witness.

And already, I’ve been asked when I’m coming back….East Coast ~ July 2027.

If you’re there and you want to meet up, I want to hear from you. Anya x

There’s a tradition of sawing through a log together on the wedding day, a little symbol of what it means to work together, to find your rhythm, and to get through whatever comes your way.

Anna and Thomas made it through the log, although I’m not sure anyone was particularly worried they wouldn’t. Anyone who has met them knows. Some people just make sense together.

And these two always did.

Some families just keep finding their way back to you.

The first time I photographed Angie and her family, they travelled to Denver to meet me. The next time, they drove around Lake Michigan to meet me on the other side, in Milwaukee. And now, this time, it’s my turn to make the journey to them.

I’m heading to St Louis to photograph them at home, and I honestly can’t wait. There’s something pretty special about a family who has made so many trips to find you, and after all these years and all these places, I feel incredibly lucky that I get to keep photographing them.

They’ll never be this little again. And then they’ll never be this little again.

It sounds obvious, but it is something I feel more deeply the older my own children get. The baby becomes the toddler, the toddler becomes the child, and somehow, almost without noticing, the child becomes someone who needs you a little less, until they don’t need you at all. (Although I’d like to believe we all need our mums, no matter how old we are.)

It is happening in the middle of ordinary days. In the noise, the mess, the sticky hands, the bedtime negotiations and the ridiculous things they do that sometimes drive you completely mad. Last night Ezra asked for one book before bed and then came back with three.

Because whatever season you are in right now, it will not come back. One day you will miss the very things you were wishing would hurry up and pass.

So enjoy it. The messy, noisy, sticky, frustrating, beautiful ordinary days. This is it. This is the bit you will miss.

SUNSHINE COAST FAMILY MODEL CALL

I’m looking for one local family for a relaxed family session over the next few days while I test out a new lens before heading to Canada next week.

You’ll receive 5 beautifully edited images from your session, completely free.

If you’d love to be considered, email [email protected] with a little about your family and your availability and please share!

Never will I not feel the sense of awe and wonder in capturing a new little human.

There is something so extraordinary about meeting someone at the very beginning of their story.

So much life ahead.
So much love already here.

Baby Hazel, today. 15 days new.

I think I’ve been overthinking everything lately. What to share, what to say, whether I have enough new work, whether I should be doing more.

And then I look back through the photographs I’ve made over the past few months and remember how much I actually love this. Photographing families, photographing babies, travelling, teaching and being in a room with other photographers and watching them find something of their own.

These are just a handful of frames from Europe this year, including a little behind the scenes from my Within Workshop in London.

And perhaps through all the change, this is the one thing that still makes complete sense to me.

A camera in my hands.

I’m heading to Sydney in October with 2 session spots remaining, and there are 2 seats remaining for my next Within Workshop.

I’m also starting to plan 2027, with Switzerland in June followed by time on the East Coast of the USA. I’ll be opening a small number of family sessions around those travels too ~ more on that soon.
