Thelymitra fuscolutea - Chestnut Sun Orchid
Today in Warwick Bushland.
Lots of plants with many on the way out, but still surprising to see many open this late in the month.

Since returning from holidays I haven’t had the motivation to go seek those few orchids still around. But happy I made the effort today.

Always good to finish the orchids season with the lovely chestnut suns 😊

This year not my year unfortunately. Just not in the right areas. Today’s very small finds around Julimar State Forest and Chittering. I’ll barely count Qualen Road in Wandoo National Park normally an orchid Mecca but at the moment a very disappointing visit.
So I’ve included some lovely wildflowers.
And I’m off to Europe in a few days so I’ll miss the best time for orchids as they seem to be late emerging this year. Never mind, likely wouldn’t find anything terribly exciting anyway with my luck. Europe will be more interesting 😁

August 16th 2025. From Wambyn Reserve to Mount Observation along the Great Southern Highway.
Not many varieties of orchids spotted but quite a lot of Eastern Curly Locks Orchids sunning themselves which was my target to find. 🤗

First posting of 2025!
Haven’t seen much of the angry Bunny Orchids and Hare Orchids. These ones from Warwick Bushland and JFNP.
Returned to Toodyay 27/5/25 to see the delightful tiny Caladenia drummondii - Winter Spider Orchid.
Lots out that day. Disappointed to see lots of broken glass on the ground.

Went hiking between Walpole and Denmark along the Bibbulmun Track just over a week ago.Expected to find lots of orchids....

Went hiking between Walpole and Denmark along the Bibbulmun Track just over a week ago.
Expected to find lots of orchids.
Unfortunately there wasn’t many around in this section.
I passed closed sun orchids including leopard orchids as most days were cold, cloudy and no sun.
I had hoped to find a new one. But wasn’t to be.
These are the ones that were around including a trip to Warwick Bushland after I got back to find few remaining Chestnut Sun Orchids open.
Until 2025…….

The “whatever I can find but there isn’t much to find” post at the end of orchid season and wildflower season too around Perth and Perth Hills. 😂 Everything finishes so quickly as the land turns brown, dry and ugly looking coming into summer. Another long hiatus until May next year.

Last Sunday 13th of October, the day after returning from Victoria, I zipped over to Gooseberry Hill area. It was a perfect sunny day for the Crystal Brook Star Orchid. Again the same plant as last year in same location this time with no one else around. Such a beautiful Sun Orchid. Went looking further afield again to find more but no luck.
