Huge orchid road trip!
August 30th 2026
Too early for Dragon Orchids but many Crimson Spiders at Congelin Campground and thinking it was too early for Chapman Spiders, found many at Yilliminning Rock picnic area. Absolutely delighted! Mozzies were horrendous though - note to bring mozzie repellent spray in future!
Last stop with the sun setting for the day was the Blood Spider Orchids off Brookton Highway. Cute how people have placed branches around each orchid like walls to protect them. Made them easy to spot as well!
Orchid with the most impact of the day was the Sugar Orchid! Appearing everywhere and in droves!

Two quick days to find orchids in the Kalbarri region. Not bad. Two new ones. Unfortunately couldn’t find some orchids on my target list. Quite difficult actually looking for orchids here. Looked in many places and have to say Kalbarri is a Mecca for wildflowers more than native orchids. Wildflowers absolutely everywhere and colourful blooms exploding in the coastal heaths. No orchids around the town itself. These taken in the National Park and Yerina Springs Road.
