Built in 1895, the historic water wheel at Cape Leeuwin, in the Margaret River Region of south west W.A., is testament to the innovation of early development when resources and power supply were scarce, particularly in regional areas of the state.

The water wheel was powered by a natural spring, which was tapped via a channel to the wheel, which in turn rotated with the natural flow of water to drive a pump & direct water to the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse; This water supply was used during the lighthouse construction, and its subsequent occupancy by the lighthouse keepers and their families.

The water wheel can be found near the southern terminus of the Cape to Cape walking track…. In case you happen to be doing that walk and looking for landmarks!

Simple and ingenuous!

This photo was taken with an Astro-modified Pentax 645z camera which has increased sensitivity to h-alpha and infra-red light emissions that help show the structure of the milky-way which the naked eye cannot see. Thanks for the mod 👍

thanks for the sensor conversion on the Pentax 645z and excellent service - can recommend to anyone considering an Astro mod on their camera of choice.

This shot was taken on an Astro modified Pentax 645z medium format body (h-alpha conversion and IR cut, sensor heat-sink added) using a 35mm f3.5 lens .5, 30 sec shot (tracked with Benro Polaris) @ iso 6400 blended with foreground shot at same settings untracked.

The natural erosion from flowing water at Brandywine Falls, Canada, has exposed ancient sedimentary layers of rock that date back ~ 400 million years. Pretty mind-blowing to think you’re glancing back at that much history when you stop to appreciate the view 🌎
