You know what you don't realise until your baby is here?
It's how quickly you start forgetting the tiny things..
The way they fit against your chest.
Their impossibly small hands curled into tiny fists.
The way their whole body seems to disappear into yours when you hold them, and the way you look at your baby, completelyamazed that YOU created that perfection.
You think you'll remember all of it, and you will remember so much.
But not quite like this...
Because those first few weeks are a blur of feeding, broken sleep, visitors, nappies and wondering what day it is. And somewhere in amongst all of that, your tiny newborn starts changing.
Their face changes.. Their little body fills out.. They stop curling up quite so tightly against you.
And suddenly, that tiny newborn stage you thought would last forever is already slipping away.
I know this one personally. With my first three babies, I thought I'd just take the photos myself. You'd think I'd have learnt after the first one… or the second… but nope 🫠
It wasn't until my fourth that I finally realised what I'd been missing... I mean, I had plenty of photos of my babies, but very few with me in them, and even fewer that truly took me back to how tiny they were. So after spending years photographing other families in that beautiful newborn bubble, I knew that I most definitely wanted those memories of my own.
That's why I don't think newborn photos are just about getting beautiful pictures of your baby.
They're about having something that takes you straight back to this, and to the version of you who was completely exhausted and completely in love.
Because one day, you'll look at these photos and realise just how little they really were, and you'll be so glad you didn't leave these moments to memory alone 🤎
