I’m having a little artist chat 11am this Sunday 8th at . So if you haven’t had a chance to see it yet now’s the perfect time!

Also come heckle me about the work! Like how fun it is to sculpt in 3D!

Can’t wait to see you there :)

I don’t get to shoot as many restaurants, cafes, and bars as I used to. I still think of myself as a food photographer, even though maybe 3 out of every 4 jobs I take are now hospitality free. And while this ratio changes depending on time of year, it’s a trend.

I think new technology makes creating photos for social media in everyone’s hands, which I celebrate! And I think restaurant venues don’t have as much turn over as they used to, which is devastating to many parts of the industry, and is a tragedy in slow motion.

But that makes me so much more satisfied and honoured when I get to shoot (and nail the aesthetic!) for a new venue.

are doing something really different. Their baked treasures are just so delightful and if you’re near Subi you’ve got to make a detour to buy a box. I’m really excited for such a lovely team, and really happy with the photo results.

Some more architecture work for where they highlight sustainable homes from residents.

This gorgeous house, in Mt Hawthorn, was designed by , and is a dream!

I’m currently in the midst of renovations, and it’s design inspo like this that keeps me going!

Another focused shoot for at the gorgeous . This time the venue was packed, as surely any beach side venue in the morning would be. So I nabbed the empty shots that I could, but also got a few atmosphere photos at the same time.

Lighting is always a struggle when the exterior is a struggle, so for the non photographers out there, some of these shots are composed of two different photos with differing exposures. It’s always fiddly to merge them (with technology making it easier all the time), but you have to for a venue photo worth it’s salt.

Every time I head to an early morning venue I see the lifestyle I could have if only I could wake up before 7:30am. But I guess not cut out for the hashtag wellness lifestyle grind set. I’ll just keep making coffee at home 😅

It’s amazing what you can get done in two and a half hours! The latest shoot was filled to the brim, and I’m really happy with the light and the shots we got!

Big thank to Tian from who really pulled together this shoot, so much work and direction lead to these photos being so good! Also thanks to .by.us for one if the tablescapes and the studio for having us.

sent me take snaps at show at a few weeks ago. We couldn’t get a media pass, but I did get to watch the sun go down and ask a bunch of strangers to “act natural like”. But they all did great.

Even the mosh pit shots, where no one would be able to hear me ask them to smile, still turned out fun! But gigs and venues always have such fun lighting, it hard to come away without the w.

I’m a little worried my captions all sound the same, the job is fun/exciting/challenging - but it’s true! The best part of my jobs are the shoots, and I’ve worked so long that I really get to work the clients I love! It’s the editing that can be difficult and tedious.

And this job was all that, late last year I shot ’s Leisure Centre, and I love getting to shoot people where I get a bit of time to set up the shot and ask everyone to smile! But when I’m shooting action (kids and balls moving) I shoot SO MUCH, so the boring part is getting home and sorting out which photos are good, in focus and without blur. SO TEDIOUS!

I’ve tried a couple of plugins but they’re all mostly focused on faces, so terrible for food or other shots, and really checking the software’s work takes almost as long when it’s working correctly. Feel free to suggest more though, I’m always willing to try again.

But mostly I’m trying to get better at not ferociously snapping away to capture, and instead plan for a short burst.

With special attention to the extremely cool booths 🍊

I really love the time I got to spend with this shoot, often I’m asked to shoot a couple of venue shots in between food photos. And really, the more time you can put into the shot, the more you get out of it.

When I get home if I see I’ve forgotten to push in a chair I get so frustrated, so being allowed to take the time to ‘see’ the photo before you take it just makes me enjoy the work and outcome more.

I keep saying I am lucky, but sometimes you meet and get to be friends with the most creative people, and while Perth is small, it’s not THAT small.

is an amazing author and artist and of course I went all out planning their portraiture shoot. I wanted to keep the project super personal (of course) but also magical and whimsical.

We went with three different styles, to make sure had a headshot for every kind of bio and piece of work. And I think each shot gives a little insight into the work she makes, and her aesthetics.

If you’re a creative friend (or stranger!) who needs a creative headshot you should reach out! These are some of the most rewarding shoots and I’d love to do more.
