‘De Stijl’

At its core, De Stijl was designed to encompass a variety of artistic influences and media, its goal being the development of a new aesthetic that would be practiced not only in the fine and applied arts, but would also reverberate in a host of other art forms.

I find the concept of creating a brand new style fascinating, to conjure what has never been seen before is what drives my passion for most things in life.

⚡️REBELLIOUS ENCORE L⚡️

I fully enjoyed creating this photographic series, torn fabrics tied on with electrical tape, grunge gel looks and rock music blaring throughout the whole session. What a wild ride, I fully felt immersed as we created this series together.

“Inspired by women of rock from past & present .
The women who chose to be different & stand out for the right reasons. These women have personally inspired me though my hairdressing career & continue evolving on what I take as fashion & trends. Credits to everyone who helped me achieve my goal & tell my story though hair. “

Two Worlds is a Coiffure Art series by I had the honour of photographing. For this series I took the position of being a vessel for others to communicate their story, keeping true to their narrative, the traditions and ethos.

Two Worlds

“Tradition meets the contemporary, past and present lives as one"

“1910 - 1970 the Australian federal and state government agencies and church missions, through a policy of assimilation, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children were forcefully removed from their families. Assimilation was based on a belief of white superiority and black inferiority, and presumed that "full-blood" Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples would naturally die out. It proposed that children with Aboriginal and white parentage, who were termed "half-caste" (now considered an extremely derogatory term), should be integrated into white society. It was believed this would be more easily achieved due to their lighter skin. These children were then forced to adopt a white culture. They were forbidden to speak their traditional languages or use the traditional names given to them by their parents. Most children were subjected to neglect, abuse or adopted by white families which then used them for domestic work. The removal of generations of children disrupted the transfer of knowledge and oral culture between generations. The Stolen Generation has also had a devastating effect on the continuation of deep cultural knowledge. Its created significant intergenerational grief and trauma for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families for a number of reasons. The impact of this is still being felt today. My work presented today represents my deep passion and love for the history of the custodians of the land, the land I now live on and call home”. - Naser Lamy
