Lynn Gail Photographer & Travel Writer

Lynn Gail Photographer & Travel Writer Travelling to different cultures to capture daily life foreign to mine, is both challenging and fascinating; each destination creates its own story.

www.lynngail.com.au Lynn Gail is a freelance photographer and writer based in Perth, Western Australia who specialises in the travel/tourism industry. She is available for both assignment and commission works within Australia and internationally. Her photographic work is represented by two of the world's leading photographic agencies, Getty Images (The Lonely Planet Collection) and Robert Harding

World Imagery. Her images are also available through Lonely Planet Images and Prints website. Lynn is also available for portraiture, offering images that share a special connection between the characters she photographs and their viewers. As a photographer, Lynn feels compelled to capture a true essence of the people and places she encounters. She feels that making a connection with her subject, however brief, is important in producing images that reflect an honesty in the patterns of people as they go about their everyday lives in our ever changing planet. "I soon realised that no journey carries one far unless, as it extends into the world around us, it goes an equal distance into the world within" - Lillian Smith.

Teachings from Bhutan's Buddhist monks: nothing lasts forever.

Bhutan is the teacher of all things living, and beyond. This tiny nation has layers upon layers of traditions that have challenged the way I view the world. I'm heading there again in November to explore the eastern side. Little has changed there, it's less explored, more remote, more raw.

The sand mandela, that is simply wiped away, teaches us life is transient. It also teaches us to spend our time on this special planet in a careful caring way. πŸ™ πŸ‡§πŸ‡Ή

Nepal πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅ ~ From the moment my feet touched the small nation of Nepal, I fell for its charms, its people, the warm mesh of Hinduism and Buddhism.

Three days later, when shooting these images, I was unaware of the catastrophic landslide unfolding less than 60km away. The devastation soon became clear later that day as messages streamed in. I was safe, but deeply saddening numbers of the missing and deceased rose, each day.

Surrounded by the warm embrace of Community Homestay Network our trip continued so we could experience all things Nepalese; even as they grieved. The team's ethos showed in their undeniable strength:

Unwavering spiritual beliefs

Unwavering support for those in need

Unwavering hope πŸ™

Nepal, you are a country with humble riches: festivals full of colour, triumph, and timeless traditions; people who worship life to its core with an unparalleled passion to rise, then rise some more. My simple wish is, travellers continue to visit you to experience your soul, and it touches their hearts they way it did mine. πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅πŸ™πŸͺ·

With rescued elephants' welfare in their hearts and ethical tourism at the top of their agenda, Phuket Elephant Sanctuary advocates a complete hands-off experience. The incredible work they do gives these gentle giants a new lease of life. To witness the freedom, love, and care these beautiful creatures deserve, especially after enduring harsh working lives, gives hope tourism and labour will end in the very soon future. 🐘🧑

As a travel writer and photographer I cover a myriad of subjects I love, but nothing comes close to going deep into villages where community is king, where life is lived by tradition, and where modern-day technologies are yet to make their approach. It's been said before, I know, but the world in front of our windows is changing so quickly it's grounding to look back, to reconnect, even if only visually, to a simpler life. Thank you, again, to Seatrekbali.com for being a huge part in making these photos happen.

In a handful of weeks I'll be heading to Nepal to connect with the Community Homestay Network. It's my first time to this culturally rich country; looking forward to exploring its landscape and meeting its people.

Jewelled camels are often associated with India, especially the annual camel festival held in Rajasthan - but to meet the Raika camel herders on the edge of the Thar Desert in their own backyard is a little magical. Not to ride India's decorated animal, but to sit near them, chat with the owners as sun sets over the dunes. 🌟

Thank you to Virendra of Virendra Singh Chouhan for making this happen. Hazel Holloway - doco and travel photographer. and I are already looking forward to next time. πŸ™

A little slice of Japan's winter wonderland is features as today's Postcard in the 'cold' section of the Canberra Times' travel pull-out magazine, Explore.

Timely too - it's chilly here in Perth today, but when the world turned white right in front of me on a snowshoe tour with walking experts, Walk Japan the scene was so breathtaking it didn't seem real. But real it was. I savoured every snow-dropping moment right down to this rural postoffice slowly dissappearing, apart from its traditional pop-of-red postbox. ❄️

The Indian Ocean's very own MnM's ~ Madagascar & Mauritius are looking sparkly in the travel section of this month's Australian Women's Weekly. The mag is flying off the racks, freshly baked bread speed, grab a copy and read about these two pearls, each incredible in their own right. 🌟🌟

Thanks so much, as always, to travel editor, Bernie O'Shea for asking me to write about these wonderful all immersive destinations, which are indeed, the perfect pairing. πŸ™πŸ™Œ

India. It hits you square on - there's no honeymoon period, no getting to know its sounds, smells, culture in a slow way. And it's every bit addictive as the finer things in life: quietude, good friends, fine food, love.... It's people are some of the most welcoming, colourful characters I've met along the road less travelled.

Here's a small set of images of beautiful people who were open to connecting in a mini-second; they've helped bring the stories of travelling to new corners of the globe to life. 🌎 Forever grateful πŸ™.

Who else needs an edge? An ocean, river, natural spring, a body of water that simply breathes life into your very being? Wherever I travel, I'm drawn to water, in landlocked countries I search for it, in ocean-edged nations, I'm splashing, diving, playing - freedom at the helm.

Read about the fishermen I met in today's The Canberra Times. Their livelihood is a fascinating one!

Making connections in a market, down an alleyway, through someone's window, another's doorway, or being invited in - purely by chance, are reasons travel fills me...the unscripted, unplanned experiences that unfold between points A-B, moments that linger long after landing home.

I met this young girl as I wandered through markets in Jodhpur, she was helping her parents run their stall. Her intense gaze drew me in, she couldn't understand why I wanted to photograph her. After some nervous giggles she sat quietly, enjoying the moment, more so, when seeing herself on the camera's screen. She had a beautiful soul, too.🌻
