My posts normally go up at 6pm but... life. 😂

Funerals, sickness, kids, work, and the end of winter sport season that seems to be CRAWLING towards the finish line at this point. 😂

So here we are with a slightly late “this is what I actually have left for the rest of the year” post.

September is basically done for family sessions, October has 2 spots and November has 3.

And since launching my Spring Family Offer, 3 families have already booked and I’ve still got a bunch of lovely mums sitting in my inbox that I need to call. 😬😂

So this is probably my little nudge to both you AND me to get organised.

If family photos have been sitting on your “we really need to do that” list, particularly if you want them done before Christmas, don’t leave it until November and then message me asking what I’ve got. 😂

I literally cannot stop thinking about this since a client called BS on me. 😂

I haven’t booked family photos in two years, and when she asked me why, I had ALL the reasons.

My photographer lives interstate.

I’m a photographer, so I’m ridiculously fussy.

I don’t want stiff posing.

And please don’t put a brown filter over my family. 😂

She basically looked at me and said, “Bianca, that’s all BS.”

And annoyingly... she was right.

Then my own bloody emails I’ve been sending about booking family photos started getting to me too.

The kids aren’t getting any younger. I’m always the one taking the photos. And apparently I can’t keep telling Perth mums to hand over the camera while refusing to do it myself. 😂

So fine.

I’m taking my own advice.

I’m booking the family photos. 🤍

You know what my clients never say to me?

“I’ll print them myself.”

Because they don’t need to.

You’ve seen what happens to that line. 😂

Life happens. It gets put on the to-do list. Then suddenly it’s a year later and you’re still meaning to print them.

When you work with me, that line looks very different.

You choose the photographs you love and I help you work out what you actually want to do with them.

Prints for your walls, an album, or both. Then I take care of the rest.

You still get your digital files.

They just aren’t the end of the story.

Because you’ve already organised the family, the outfits and the photoshoot.

You shouldn’t have to finish the job as well. 🤍

To the Perth mum already overthinking her family session before it’s even happened... 😂

I seriously love kids. They bring me so much joy when I photograph them, and you know what? They ALL have their little quirks.

Some are shy, some are wild, some want absolutely nothing to do with me and some become my best mate within five minutes.

I don’t need your kids to behave perfectly. I don’t even want that.

Let them be silly. Let them run off. Let Dad stir them up. Let them ignore me completely.

I’ve been photographing kids for 18 years. I know how to work with whatever they give me.

And quite often, the things you think are going wrong are exactly where the good stuff happens. 🤍

Perth mums, I’m talking to you. 🤍

Your phone is FULL of photos of your family.

Dad with the kids. The kids together. Birthdays, holidays, sport, random Tuesday afternoons... all of it.

But you’re the one behind the camera.

Again.

So this Spring, hand the job to me.

You don’t need to take a single photo. You don’t need to make everyone smile. You don’t even need to worry about whether the kids behave.

You just get to be there. In the photos with them.

Part 1 of how I turned 150 photos of my own family into an album without needing all 150 of them. 😂

First round... 150 → 70.

Then I started designing the album and realised another 20 could go.

Yep, even I have to be ruthless with my own family photos.

50 made the album. And they were the right 50. 🤍

When two souls unite 🤍

I don’t photograph weddings anymore, but when a dear friend asked me to capture this moment for them, I instantly said YES.

For two reasons.

One, I love Pete, his dad, who sadly couldn’t make it to their Bali wedding.

And two, because I knew how much having these photographs would mean to all of them.

It was simple. Their real wedding celebrations were still to come, there was no big production, no hours of photography.

Just them.

And in about 20 minutes I captured beautiful, real, honest love. The nerves, the laughs, the way they looked at each other and a pretty special moment with Dad that they now get to keep forever.

And this is the stuff I bloody love about photography.

It doesn’t always need to be a huge production.

Sometimes you just need to recognise when a moment really matters... and photograph it. 🤍

Over the decades I’ve realised how important it is for me to connect with people, rather than simply take good photos.

And when I say connect, there are a few things I naturally do.

If I’m photographing kids, I’m down at their level.

If it’s a mum, I’m looking her in the eyes and listening.

If it’s an artist, I’m looking at their work and asking how the hell they created something so incredible.

I talk constantly 😂 but I’m also listening, weaving my way through the conversation trying to find out who you really are.

And I work really hard at NOT bringing the conversation back to me, unless you ask me something.

You know what? It works everywhere.

On the sidelines at soccer. At the grocery store. And especially on a shoot.

My favourite part is watching someone’s face change from a little wary to...

“Oh, you noticed that.”

Or...

“You remembered that.”

Because I don’t just want to photograph people.

I want people to feel seen.

And I think that’s probably one of the most important parts of what I do. 🤍

Do the maths.

You spent $1,000 on family photos.

You got the digital files.

You still have nothing on your walls.

And now you need to find a printer, work out sizes, choose frames and spend even more money to actually finish the job.

And we all know what happens next...

“I’ll do it later.”

This is exactly why I don’t believe my job finishes when I hand over your digital files.

I want you to have the digitals and something beautiful you can actually see in your home every day.

Because $1,000 is a lot of money to spend decorating your hard drive. 😂
