What most people don’t see behind a commercial drone shoot 👇

Through both training and real-world operations, it’s clear that capturing high-quality aerial content isn’t just about flying a drone — it’s the result of careful planning, strict safety considerations, and clear coordination between the pilot and the client on-site.

A few real-world examples from early projects:

• A person unexpectedly walked out of a building directly into the active flight area — despite prior signage and communication.
➡️ Lesson: On-site control and a clearly defined responsibilities are critical to maintaining a safe operating environment.
• A shoot had to be cancelled because nearby residents couldn’t be contacted or cleared within the required 30m separation distance.
➡️ Lesson: Compliance isn’t flexible — if conditions aren’t right and compliance isn’t met; the operation doesn’t proceed.
• Arrived on-site to find the location unprepared for aerial visuals
➡️ Lesson: Site presentation directly impacts the quality, and ultimately the value of the final content

This is exactly why I now run every project through a structured pre-quote checklist before quoting, followed by a Client Service Agreement prior to scheduling any flight work. Both reviewed and signed off by client.

Not to make things complicated — but to ensure:

✅ Full compliance with Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations
✅ A designated on-site contact responsible for coordinating people and maintaining a safe operating environment – allowing the pilot to remain fully focused on mission providing safe and compliant flight operations
✅ The final content delivered reflects the standard your brand and location is aiming to present

Because in commercial drone work…

The difference isn’t just in the images or footage delivered – it’s in everything that happens before take-off, throughout the operation, and through to a safe landing.

Recently had the pleasure of capturing some aerial imagery of Hainault at Carmel, a beautiful winery nestled in the Perth Hills, Carmel.
Known for its handcrafted wines, seasonal food, and relaxed hospitality. Hainault is a place shaped by natural beauty to gather, unwind, and enjoy soulful moments shared among the vines—whether it’s a weekend breakfast, quiet lazy afternoon, catch-up with friends, or a long lunch in the hills. Every visit is about more than what’s in the glass, it’s about being part of something local, welcoming, and enduring.

This shoot came about through a great connection with the .chamber.of.commerce

With Hainault @ Carmel reopening this Friday afternoon January 30 after their short break and minor renovations, it’s a perfect time to rediscover this local gem.
