Hi everyone, I'm still finding photos to process from my recent trip to Esperance / Albany / Denmark. This one is of Little Beach, in Two Peoples Bay National Park, about 35 km east of Albany. This area has some of the best beaches in western Australia.

This is a panoramic image made up of six separate images stitched together using Lightroom.

Just 30 kilometres north east of Mount Barker lies the magnificent Stirling Range or Koikyennuruff, one of Western Australia’s few mountain wildernesses. An ancient landform. The range stretches for 65 kilometres from east to west and the tallest peak Bluff Knoll stands at 1059 metres above sea level. At 2500 – 2900 million years old the bedrock of the Stirling Range is composed of metamorphosed sandstones and shales, believed to have originated from an ancient sea.

Bluff Knoll was called Pualaar Miial (great many faced hill) by the local Aboriginal people. This was because the rocks on the bluff were shaped like faces. The peak is often covered with mists that curl around the mountain tops and float into the gullies. These constantly changing mists were believed to be the only visible form of a spirit called Noatch (meaning dead body or co**se), who had an evil reputation.

There are a number of other prominent peaks, being Toolbrunup Peak (1052m), Mount Magog and Mount Trio (856m), Mount Hassell (847m), and Talyuberlup Peak (783m). Without any foothills the peaks rise starkly and impressively from the surrounding plains.

The height and south coast proximity of the ranges produces a unique climate giving rise to a location that is famous for rare West Australian snow falls.

Wharton Beach is approximately 90 km east of Esperance, on the south coast of Western Australia, about 700 km south east of Perth.

The Esperance area has in my opinion some of the best unspoilt beaches in the world. I guess the remoteness helps and the fact that most visitors are generally pretty respectful of the environment.

It's only been a week since I got back from my trip to Esperance / Albany / Denmark and already I am missing the scenery and the slower pace of life.

If you haven't been to this part of Western Australia I would highly recommend it.

Feel free to share.

Hi everyone. This is my first post in a few months. I just don't seem to find the time to post new content as often as I used to.

My son has been visiting from the UK and is due to return soon. So we did a road trip down to Esperance, then on to Albany and Denmark on the south coast of Western Australia.

Unfortunately I was unable to capture any drone footage in Esperance due to connection issues but did capture this footage of the beautiful Ocean Beach, near Denmark.

Hope you enjoy it. Photos to follow soon.

The Caledonian Canal at Fort Augustus, joining the southern end of Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. I did a boat trip on Loch Ness and the weather to start with was a bit chilly but pleasant. Once out into the loch, it got cold to the point where I couldn't feel or use my camera!
Been many years since I felt that cold! Serves me right for sitting on the open top deck of the boat.

I didn't see Nessie, either! 😀

I've finally got round to processing some of my photos from my UK trip in October. Apologies but a busy schedule and a damaged card reader delayed things somewhat.

Here's a 5 image panoramic photo from the Loch Tulla viewpoint between Bridge of Orchy and Glencoe. The weather, in true Scottish tradition involved all four seasons repeating themselves multiple times every hour. It makes for some very atmospheric photographs though!

Click on the image to see it in full screen.

Hopefully I'll have more soon.

Enjoy

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

Lest We Forget

A few more photos from my recent trip to Edinburgh. Captions / locations are underneath each photo.

I'm in London for the next 11 days before I return to Australia. I can't wait to process my camera images when I get back as my laptop has finally expired.

Thankfully my phone takes a reasonable photo.

Hope you like them. Have a great week.

A few days ago I was on a coach tour from Edinburgh stopping at Callendar, Glencoe, Loch Ness and Pitlochry with a couple of minor stops in between. Most of my photography was done on my main camera and I am unable to process all of those shots until I get home. However I also took a few with my phone for convenience.
Here's a few of the highlights of the tour conducted by Hairy Coo tours.

The story of Greyfriars Bobby (dog lovers get the tissues handy)

The best-known version of the story is that Bobby, a Skye Terrier, belonged to John Gray, who worked for the Edinburgh City Police as a nightwatchman. Bobby would follow his owner to work and the two were inseparable.

When John Gray died in 1858 he was buried in Greyfriars Kirkyard, the kirkyard surrounding Greyfriars Kirk in the Old Town of Edinburgh.

Bobby then became known locally, spending the rest of his life sitting on his master's grave. Various people tried to coax Bobby away from the grave but he would not leave, and no matter the weather conditions, he was there.. In the end a shelter was built for him near the grave and food regularly brought to him.

In 1867 the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Sir William Chambers, who was also a director of the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, paid for Bobby's licence and gave the dog a collar, now in the Museum of Edinburgh. Bobby was now owned by the city.

Bobby is said to have sat by the grave for 14 years. He died in 1872.

He could not be buried next to his owner due to the churchyard being consecrated ground. Instead he was buried just inside the gate of Greyfriars Kirkyard, not far from John Gray's grave.

OK, who's eyes are watering?
