Quick edit from a capture at Broke Inlet.
When I first started getting into photography I used to get awe struck by nature. I really just wanted to capture it the best I could, mainly down by the old bridge in Mandurah and the trails of Serpentine. When I went to Tafe and got work using people as the subject, the landscape photography was completely forgotten about. I had a reset to my soul on my recent trip down south, I reverberated with the universe and the stars aligned. I was once again basking in the awesomeness of our world, the diversity of what I believe to be our last bit of paradise in the South West. I have a few cracker shots I'll share soon, when my shedge opens up again.

Photographed a national dance competition a few weeks ago.
I hadn't done an important event in quite some time.
At first it was hard, it was stressful, and I missed many moments.
It took me a while to get my vantage point, moving my strobes and getting that back lighting to my advantage.
Those first moments at a job are the most anxiety inducing. You need to scope the place, read the light, meet your client, put your stuff down somewhere safe, set up, stop sweating and be a gentleman about it all.... and I'm never early enough to do all those things.
When it all kicked off I relaxed the best I could and just did not stop snapping, and it turned out to be the most fun I'd had at a job for a long time.
I wish I could express how much energy these rockers had. They danced all day and I mean all day. Sometimes their heats were back to back and even when there was a break from the heats for a few songs, these moving and shaking people, did, not, stop. They were up out of their seats practising their moves and transitions it was honestly so hard to keep up with their output.
It felt like such a privilege to be thrown into their world for a weekend. Thanks for having me I'll be bringing another photographer with me next time, that's for damn sure.

At Tafe we got taught a very good rule, it's all about the light.
A photographer that went through tafe the year before me she shared some photos that weren't exactly the most exciting, photos of trees and objects and such, but I understood them very well, it was all about the feeling of the light. I really appreciated the photos that she posted and I remember thinking next time I'm noticing the light shine through and gives me that feeling, I'm going to capture it. Yes the subject is a point of interest but really, it is all about the light.

This was captured just a couple of mornings ago, Michelle and I camped at Dwellingup, at the most perfect time of the year in my opinion. The sun had been up for an hour or two and there was that awesome feeling I've been longing for. The cool dew air under the shadows and the pure gratitude of feeling the gentle warmth of the sun. We live in one of the best places in the world, in the bibby of WA. I think we absolutely nailed the best time of the year to go, mid week, nearly no one around, perfect weather, perfect light.

Activate Saplings FESTIVAL - Noman's Lake - 03-06-2023 7/8
There was a closing ceremony following the smoking ceremony. An unofficial matriarch, but very much in my eyes, a Matriarch. She said some words that resonated deeply with me,
"We have to heal, so WE can heal" and repeated it, making a statement of importance.
"We have to heal, so WE, can heal"
To me, she was talking about healing the earth. She was talking about healing community. She was talking about us. She hit the nail on 3 heads with one sentence.

I always thought it was the other way round, as I believe we are all god expressing oneself and everything as connected, these simple words allowed me to understand what I needed to heal in myself. Taking responsibility to clean my house first.

In order for me to better help the earth, or to just better communicate, in a community that I choose to love. I need to heal.

I think this is what can bring back our sovereignty. Be a king/queen of your kingdom first, then your house, then your community, then bring that to the world so you can do so with full conviction.

We all have our part to play in being a custodian. Some others we share the world with, they seem to treat the world like a nightclub toilet, pretending that they're never going to see it again.

I had to read that last bit a few times over just to make sure that is concise and well it's too hard to change. I've waffled on long enough, there goes my morning, thanks for listening to me, incoming photo dump *fart noise*

Activate Saplings FESTIVAL - Noman's Lake - 03-06-2023 6/8
All the planning had been done for us. All we had to do was put a mixture of saplings into a little bucket that straps around your chest, stab a Pottiputki into the earth, throw a sapling down the tube and stamp it down...thousands of times in a row. Big step, big step, stab, slide, stamp.....big step big step.....you get the idea. Anyway, when I first started I was concerned about the efficency of it all. When our sub group had finished the first section, I turned around looked back down the hill...and seen... about a kilometre of trees planted, it took probably an hour, and we were going slow. I was so utterly impressed how easy it was for me to come along and smash down a kilometre of trees. The day was spent with new people with good hearts. The day also gave you quiet contemplation, meditation and reflection, all while stamping life right into the earth.
A flat bed truck with PLANT MORE TREES on it's sign, was driving around the various groups while we planted. They were just driving around delivering good vibes. Someone on the decks just ripping it up, choosing playlists, passing the aux cord around. A big chunk of photos was me hanging out on the back of this truck, driving past groups of volunteers as they would do a jig and shake their tail feather for a bit, that was a joyful moment.
