Good Afternoon and Welcome to a Sunday Post!

A very wet weekend again, although today had a nice spot of sunshine for a while so we took the dog for a walk in it. Nice.
I spent hours writing a PowerPoint presentation for an upcoming event that I will share once the advertising is in place. Stoked to be asked to run a workshop again at this annual event.

Last of the dance shots from my short session last weekend with Maratus gemmifer. This is from a position prior to the other shot I posted on Friday. I think I said that it was in a bit of a poo spot and this pic kind of shows that. I couldn't get down lower to him as it was covered with foliage and you can see the green blur across the bottom left of the shot which is a leaf from a Lomandra plant. I also was obstructed by more sticks that were attached to that platform he was on AND the female was in a spot that I would have disturbed if I tried to push in closer.
What it does show though, is due to the angle of the light, the scales on the flap are refracting the light differently and you can see greens and turquoise colours in there instead of the bright blues often seen with these guys. Ive seen mungaich that are showing purple at the right angle as well as green and blue. It's all about the light!

TGIF! Welcome to the Weekend and a Friday Post!

Wet Wet Wet, not just an 80's band but the state of weather here. After the warm night Wednesday, and a crackign bbq I might add with a couple of cold beverages, yesterday turned into a very wet afternoon/evening. My area had over 2"/50mm and the pool got about 80mm into it. It was crazy. Today was ok but the rain has started again and tipped to be going on over the weeknd till early next week. So no shooting last night and I will see what opportunities show themsleves over the weekend.

Tonight's pic is another of Maratus gemmifer from last Saturday and is the same guy from the previous post. He eventually locked eyes with the nearby female and he did his thing all shiny and dancing around! Thankfully he moved a little because he was in a position that didn't allow me to get in closer and there was foliage across the field of view. I didn't want to disturb the scene and lose the opportunity, so waiting patiently was my game plan. It took about 30+ minutes for this to happen. I was laying in the dirt with h***y nuts, seed pods of a eucalypt tree called Marri, and my elbows were sore from being jammed into them. But that is the price you pay to get shots in situ. Worth a couple of bruises and soreness.
This was again a manually focused and bracketed stack of 7 images. Once he was in position and locked onto the female, he didn't really care I was close to him. I love this species for that!

Good Afternoon and Welcome to a Mid Week Post!

This week is moving quickly, and it's been busy as at work. At home, not much different, but I am engaging the do a little everyday and end up doing a lot at the end of it strategy. It is working for me. Weather on the change again tomorrow. It is so warm this afternoon that I am in board shorts! I am thinking thunderstorms may be on the menu with it being warm before the front tomorrow.

Saturday was the perfect day for a shoot in my local reserve in search of some early season Maratus gemmifer. THis is not uncommon to find a few early on and mating happening. But it is always great to see and especially good since my early mungaich diodnt want to show off for me this year. This little dude was in view of a female that was disinterested but he started to do his thing. I will save what comes next for Friday. But here he is legs up, flap beginning to unfurl and trying to get her attention.

7x images stacked to create this final image. Shot manual focus, manual bracketing, 1/200 - f9 - iso200 - shutter at constant low (11 or 12 fps) and diffused flash manually set for exposure at 1/64 + 0.6. Stacked in Helicon 8 and processed in PS.

Good Afternoon and Welcome to a Sunday Post!

Been a great weekend with plenty of cool things happening and some jobs done around home too. Which need to be done.
I headed out yesterday for a little play in a local reserve in search of some early starting Maratus gemmifer. Wasnt left disappointed with that 3 hours let me tell you! More on that in the coming days.
Had a cafe breakfast and coffee meeting today about something macro related, and I will share more on that in the coming week or so.

For now, though, here is a Cytaea aspera from the wet Thursday night shoot session during the week. I saw this one dangling with a flying ant it had just caught. Couldn't believe my luck so I went at it and took some bracketed images to create these final stacked images.
Both are 7x images taken handheld, manually focused and then stacked in Helicon. Because I wasn't wonky this time LOL. Then into PS for processing
Check out the water drops on both subjects. So cool!

TGIF! Welcome to the Weekend and a Friday Night Post.

Been another busy week and I am ready for a weekend. Weather started again last night BUT I managed to get out for 1.25hrs in between 2 fronts. Glad I did because I got a couple of pics in camera that look great. I am now looking forward to a huge sleep tonight, maybe a few hours out tomorrow in a local reserve chasing in colour Maratus gemmifer with the camera and then just working around home. Going to be good!

Another pic of another juvenile badge huntsman from last Thursday night. This one was in some sedgy grass bush eating a beetle. I pick these guys up with eye shine and then just walk at the glow till I see them in the light of my headlamp. This was again in a vertical position and required some old man groan noises and yoga posing to get the shots. This is actually a 3x shot stacked image taken fully manually.

Good Evening and Welcome to a Mid Week Post!

Been a busy week so far and I am decompressing by watching the State of Origin, Game 3 tonight. Really not the way to calm the mind LOL. Anyways GO the Blues!

Another shot from my walk last Thursday evening., I am hoping the rain holds off tomorrow so I can go out again tomorrow night.
There were quite a few badge huntsman, Neosparassus species, in the areas and lots of them were juveniles. Which is totally normal in the local reserves. I managed to find a couple of them eating so got a couple of pics. Here is one of them tonight with this one eating a Crane Fly? I think. Anyways here it is!

Good Afternoon and Welcome to a Sunday Post on this very wet afternoon here in West Aust!

Good weekend till it started raining. Spent yesterday spring cleaning in Winter into a skip bin. Very cathartic. Then off for some lunch with family at a local brewery. Very nice indeed.
Started this morning with the installation of a new pool pump and redoing all of the rubbish piping from a previous owner. No more leaks and no more pipe strain in that system!
Took the doggle for a walk as I knew it was likely to be wet later today BUT it started raining early in the afternoon. What to do then except shower, on with the heater and watch a movie. Good Sunday vibe!

Managed a couple of other shots of the Thursday night Brush Footed Trapdoor I stumbled onto. Managed to get a couple of stacks to create these images.
As always, manually bracketed in the field and then layered, stacked and processed in PS for the final images you see.

TGIF! Welcome to the Weekend and a Friday Arvo Post!

Rain has finally stopped. Got a few drops yesterday morning making it a full 7 days of rain. So cold, wet conditions have not made for good macro hunting at night after work. Has made for good put the heater on and fall asleep on the recliner weather though. LOL

Last night it was cold, still, overcast and quiet. I headed out into the local reserve across the road for a 90 minute paly whilst my wife worked the late start at her store. It was perfect with not a breath of wind moving things around and I was rugged up adequately so I was comfortable. I saw so many juvenile badge huntsman and got a few shots of a couple eating their dinner. Saw a few other small things and then was greeted in a spot with 8 hairy black legs in the sand. Winner!!! A trapdoor and not one I had seen myself before so even more exciting. I knew these were in the reserve so I was stoked to finally see one. This is a Barychelidae, an Idiomatta species or Brush Footed Trapdoor. It was super placid, no defensive posing and walked like a tarantula. I could not have been more excited. It sat nicely for me for some close up, bracketing shots, which I will process and share soon, and allowed me a chance to get a wider pic to share tonight. Its not as big as you may think with an overall leg span of maybe 2.5"/ 65mm. But still really impressive to see and shoot. Hope you like. Definitely more to come of this one.

A very late Sunday Post!

Been a massively wet weekend here and it just did not stop all weekend. Did give me a chance to do some cooking, drop off and pick my wife up from work, catch up with my Mum, spend ludicrous sums of money buying a new pool pump cos the other one is far beyond repair.... fun and games indeed!

I was hoping for an hour or two of clear skies to go fungi hunting but it wasn't to be. I will get out though later in the week when it clears. Tonight's pic is me dreaming of more of this to see and I am on the hunt for a good chunk of glow in the dark Ghost Fungus too!

TGIF! Welcome to the Weekend and a Friday Arvo Post!

I don't do super personal on social media, or this page of mine, but I will make an exception. Apologies for the real lack of posting over the last few months up to and including recently. It has been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster with my FIL getting sick and then passing away a fortnight ago after a terminal illness diagnosis that was a surprise to all. A trip interstate to be with my wife and her family to pay respects and lay him to rest last week and only returned the start of this week. I have had my wife on a plane every 2-3 weeks for the last 4 months or so to make sure she got to spend time with him. So it's been very emotional and busy. I will end this with a Vale Omar; you were a gentleman and a wonderful human admired and loved by your family, your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and extended families of them all. Thank you, sir.

A quick walk last night to get out of the house before the rains hit again and really still not much around in some areas. I did get the fright of my life when a rather large kangaroo appeared 5 metres from me in my headlamp light, but she didn't even flinch. Just kept eating grass and slowly moving on her way. I did see a few small things and managed to get a little stacked image of a very small, speckled orb weaver or Araneus circulissparsus. This is a 3x image stack taken totally manually as usual, and I actually had to use the back LCD as I had to reach up above head height to get the shots. I did ok I think.
