Twenty people, four generations, all coming together on the same weekend to celebrate two massive milestones. Nikola’s 80th birthday and his and Pamela’s 60th wedding anniversary 💍 😍 🎂

The shoot was originally planned outdoors, but Perth had other ideas. With family flying in from
Sydney, rescheduling simply wasn’t an option, so I hired a studio last minute because there was
absolutely no way I was going to let this family down!

This is what it takes to document a moment that doesn’t come around very often. And exactly why
it’s so important to capture it when it does.

I have a tissue box intentionally placed right in front of you when you first see your photos for the first time 🥹

I don’t call it a tear-jerker slideshow for nothing.

Nothing says ‘I love you’ quite like a slow-mo fake punch to the face especially for the camera 🤣

Yes, the fake slow-mo fight actually happened! It was my bribe to them at the end of the shoot to encourage them to help me get the kind of photos Mum REALLY wants in the wall!

And you bet there was a high-five for surviving what they likely thought was a ‘cringe moment’ 🫣

These two were absolutely hilarious 😆 Typical sibling bickering, some chaos, the occasional eye roll, but all mixed in with moments of fun and hugs… these kiddos sure do love each other, even if they’d never admit it.

This family sees their photos tomorrow, and something tells me even the kids are going to be impressed (even if I do say so myself) 😘

11.28pm thought: “We’re so awkward on camera... what if the photos turn out terrible?”
Ruth and Daniel are self confessed awkward in front of the camera. And honestly.... there were a couple of awkward moments throughout their shoot (me included!), but they were such good sports about it!

But here’s the thing... it takes time, not just for my clients, but for me as well to warm up during a session, read the room, and understand someone’s love language and personalities.

Sometimes I try prompts on a shoot that are a total flop and I embarrass myself 😅 And other times they create the most authentic moments!

And you know what? Those occasional awkward moments.... they often make the best photos 📷

When someone feels a little awkward, the natural reaction for most is to laugh. And that laughter creates some of the most natural, beautiful, in the moment photos. And I promise when you look back at them, you won’t actually remember the awkward part, all you’ll see is how happy you look.

I bet if I hadn’t told you this little secret about Ruth and Daniel, you never would have guessed by looking at their photos, right? So don’t let the fear of thinking you’re awkward stop you from documenting life in front of the camera with your favourite people.
