🗓️ When is the best time to have a session is something I’m asked a lot! There truly is no ‘right’ answer to this but here’s my take. I’ve been photographing families for over 13 years now and there’s a few special milestones I think you should consider documenting.
• Maternity Session - Usually between 28-36 weeks. This is a perfect way to document life before change weather it be intimate and in home or a fun family session on the beach, I think it’s a special one.
• Birth Photography- While I admit this one isn’t for everyone, I think it should be. It’s definitely not all about vaginas, birth photography is about capturing the first time you get to meet the little person you made! It’s all the special details, (some you may not even notice going on) and all those beautiful first moments together. Is it a little on the exxy side? Yes. Is it more than the TV you’ve got hanging on your wall that you’ll replace in a few years time? No and I can guarantee these photos will grow more in value to you with every birthday that passes.
• Newborn Session - this is a given. All those tiny, fresh details of your brand new, snuggly baby. Their sweet little toes, cute button nose, the way they fit perfectly into your neck, they way their big siblings give them sloppy kisses on the forehead and how tiny they look in your partners hands.
• Sitting Session - This would be around 7-9 months old. When baby is starting to sit un-aided but not yet crawling around at lightning speed. They’re often a bit cute with chubby little cheeks and LOTS of personality. A really beautiful age for an in-home session on your bed or in the backyard.
• 18 months - This seems to be an awesome family session age! Lots of fun and games, playful chasing, toddling and snuggles too. Like the session above. Super sweet.
Beyond 18 months, I usually say recommend every second year while your kids are still young. It’s the sweet spot to see growth and dynamics change, interests and personalities grow as well as documenting life and relationships as they are. ✨
