Shot early May, hovering over the Hastings River mouth at sunrise looking back toward Town Beach.
Construction began in 1897 โ built to stop boats being destroyed crossing the bar. The rocks were quarried by horse-drawn tram from the site where the Birpai Local Aboriginal Land Council now stands and hauled out along a tram line into the river.
The painted rocks started as a Lions Club art competition in 1995 and never really stopped. Tributes, anniversaries, memorials, kids' handprints. Every rock has someone behind it.
It's easy to walk past it every day and stop seeing it
