After 17 years and 5 months on this earth, our sweet Maggie left us today. ❤️
We adopted her from a senior dog rescue when she was 8. We never knew much about those first 8 years of her life, only that she was surrendered after a divorce, with neither one wanting to keep her. Their loss became our greatest gift, because we got to spend the most wonderful 9 years with this beautiful girl.
She was funny. She was strong. She was determined to always be by our side, and she never wanted to miss a single moment of the fun.
We had so many incredible adventures together. She moved interstate with us twice. She hiked nearly every trail in Mount Macedon and never once complained. She loved every minute of it, and kept up with the big dogs every step of the way. She loved her friend Sookie so much, and missed her dearly after she passed.
We laughed today, even through the tears, thinking about the time she just bailed on her walk around the Lancefield park. I was just about to call Kyle to say “I can’t find Maggie” when he was calling me at the exact same time. I answered to hear “WE’VE JUST FOUND MAGGIE!” Driving through town, Isabelle had spotted her out the car window and said “That’s Maggie!!” She’d simply decided she’d had enough of the walk with Sookie and Violet and had taken herself all the way home. That was Maggie. Always on her own terms.
After many years of adventures, she started to grow a little greyer and a little more tired. As her eyesight began to fade, so did the long walks, and in recent years her world became smaller, but it was never less full of love. And when her little body grew weary and began to give up, we knew it was time to let her go.
Driving home from the vet, with tears in our eyes and heavy hearts, a beautiful rainbow accompanied us all the way. After Sookie passed, we always said the rainbows were her coming to say hi.
So today, dear Maggie…as your tired little body finally gave way, we know it was Sookie who came past to collect your beautiful soul, and now you can both be together again, running every trail, getting covered in mud, never missing out on the fun. 🌈
Goodbye beautiful Maggie. You are so very loved. ❤️
