Lighting position. Camera position. Background. Distance. Settings.

Your product needs to be seen in forty different settings. Do you shoot one and AI the rest? You maybe could but the cost and the time would be enormous, and some of those AI-generated images take a lot of time to fix especially as outdoor and seasonal products are the highest-risk shoots there are, because the weather can delete an entire day.

Coolaroo's range spans multiple product types, colours and applications — residential, commercial, garage screening, fencing — a product whose whole job is managing sunlight. You can't shoot it on a safe overcast day. You need visible sun. Which is exactly the contrast range a camera struggles with most. The protection is planning: recce the location, track how the sun crosses it, storyboard, keep the schedule flexible.

If your site is changing — consolidating, upgrading, relocating — the window to document it is now.

BlueScope's Sunshine Service Centre opened in 1962. We photographed it across a full year: the facilities, the processes, and the people who'd been there for decades. A year-long commission is a different discipline to a shoot day. The site changed. Management changed partway through. Images from month one had to sit beside images from month eleven with no visible drift, because eventually they'd share a printed page.
Once the equipment moves, that record is gone. There's no going back for it. There's a second chapter to this one coming; what happened to those images afterwards.

Melbourne, you were wonderful. 🥹🥂 Our sixth year at Affordable Art Fair Australia , and the best part is still the conversations.

Six years at this fair, and it still gets us every time. Watching someone stand in front of a piece a little longer than they meant to, then come back twenty minutes later to buy it. 🫂

Thank you to everyone who visited the Gotham Studios Collective at Stand H1, asked our artists about their work, and took something home. Here's a question worth sitting with: can your customer touch your product before they buy it? If the answer is no, your photography isn't decoration. It's the product description.

Australian Whisky Auctions runs an online auction every month. Their bidders can't hold the bottle, can't check the fill level, can't inspect the label wear. They look at an image and decide whether to bid real money.
We shot for them for about five years. And the hardest part wasn't the glass, it was doing it sixty times in a row and having it all look like one business.

The temptation with work like that is to relight from scratch each time and chase a better version. We didn't. We built one setup and maintained it.
Sounds unambitious. It's the reason five years of catalogue images now sit together as one visual standard instead of sixty separate moods.

Working to a fixed budget? Spend it on planning, not on extra shoot days.
A well-prepared three-day shoot will out-deliver a loosely planned five-day one every single time. I'd argue that's the most useful thing in this whole post.

Sistema commissioned us through their London office for a new bottle range: full crew, male and female talent, three separate locations, three days. The budget wasn't protected on the shoot days. It was protected in the weeks before them.
