Rocky Ring Road - September 2026

This one follows the construction progress from North to South, as around half of the people watching these videos don’t make it all the way through, so I figured I would let them see what they’ve missed in previous updates 😅

There is quite a bit of progress each time I head out, which is great to see!

A pretty special start to the day from the top of Mt Archer.

Low cloud and fog blanketed Rockhampton this morning, while the first light caught the ranges above it.

Definitely one of those mornings where being up before sunrise paid off.

Work is officially underway on Gracemere’s long-awaited new high school. 🚧🏫

Stage 1 is scheduled to open in Term 1, 2028, initially catering for Years 7 and 8, before the campus expands to accommodate students through to Year 12.

A big project for a growing Gracemere community, and one I’ll be keeping an eye on as construction progresses.

Anyone else catch that sunset yesterday afternoon?

Yesterday’s fire north of Yaamba left a pretty confronting mark on the landscape.

This morning I flew the area to capture how the fire tracked through the grassland beside the Bruce Highway, with smoke still lifting from parts of the ground.

A very different perspective from the air.

A look from above at the aftermath of yesterday’s grass fire north of Yaamba. 🔥

The aerial view really shows the scale of the area affected, with large sections of grassland and bush burnt on both sides of the Bruce Highway.

A big effort from the local fire crews and emergency services who responded yesterday and worked to bring it under control.

I’ve been tossing around an idea for 2027… 👀📅

I’m thinking about putting together a Scokat Creative Rockhampton & Capricorn Coast 2027 Calendar, featuring some of my favourite images from around the region.

Before I get too carried away with designing one, though, I thought I’d see if there’s actually enough interest to make it worthwhile!

I’d also like the calendar to do a little bit of good locally, with a portion of the profits going to a local charity or community organisation.

So I’d love to know:

👉 Would you buy one?
👉 What places, landmarks or scenes around Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast would you love to see included?

This is only a concept at this stage, and the final images and design may change, so your suggestions might even give me a few new places to get out and photograph before it all comes together.

There are quite a few more rules and requirements around flying drones than what can be covered in a quick post like this.
If you own or operate a drone, CASA should always be your primary source of information on where and how you can legally fly.

We’ve seen an increase in calls for service and community safety concerns related to drone use. If you own and operate a drone, please ensure your drones are:
👉 Not flown above 120 metres from ground level
👉 Not flown over populous areas (houses roadways, gatherings, beaches)
👉 Not flown within 30 metres of people
👉 Kept within your line of sight
