I once made a post saying "the sunlight alwsys dances for issy" and this session was no exception. Taken at sunrise on a cold misty morning, just my two favourite muses and I. The magic that these to create, and the love they radiate fills my creative cup in a way I cant begin to describe.

Happy 5 year anniversary, beautiful souls. And as always, thank you for the trust and allowing me to capture every chapter your lovestory.

Cant wait to show you more of this beautiful storyteller session

Repost because you desrve to see this one in high definition. I feel like i hit peak millenial today when i learnt my photos were blurry not because of my cracked screen, they were in fact uploaded at the lowest resolution ðŸĨđ

This time we'll go in reverse, from sunrise back to blue hour.

Hi hello! Lots of new faces on here and its been a while since ive introduced myself on here.

I started this account in 2012, and since then we've seen many phases, grown in many directions, each of them with photography at it's hearts core. And leading to this final form: For The Nostalgic.

I started this brand in 2016 as a (young!!!!) Graphic Design graduate and Film School drop out. A full decade in the making. Since then a lots changed. I've become a mama, a wife, moved down to the south coast and laid the foundations for the life of our dreams. The one thing that hasn't changed?

I still looooove capturing your love stories

----
I recently caught myself thinking "damn, i need to get some branding photos done" and i probaby should, and probably will. But i have also always been fortunate to be surrounded by kick ass creatives who have captured me in a way that radiates raw joy (and also how super cool and fun i am)

So in order of image appearance:

Cinematic elopememt, but make it ?
Talk about a dream session! Eeeek

This sunrise was straight out of a bronte novel. We started out dark and moody, the cloud cover was so thick i thought we wouldnt get a glint of sunlight, but when she finally made her apperance through that salty sea fog.... Oh. My. Lord.

I cant pick my favourite photo, can you?

Oh also im having an argument with my husband - I think the last slide is ~aesthetically~ the best photo I've ever taken. He disagrees and says its the second last slide- so which team are you? Team wave or no wave?!

Same session. Difference perspective.

Going through some of my old galleries and reimaging them in my new editing style. Shot on a white sands beach in the harshest midday sun, my initial edits fought to capture the true to life colours and brightness of the sand, sun and crystal blue water.
Going through again, this time with a cinematic storytellers perspective, this gallery was MADE to be moody. While the colours arent true to life of the moment anymore, they match the energy and spice of these two lovers in a way that elevates the viewing experience.

This carousel is such a prime example of how colour balance, crop and lighting can transform a flat edit into a swoony smokeshow.

The art of observation

The key to elevating your photography comes down to one thing: noticing.

In my early days as a photographer I was pedantic. I always made sure to shoot at sunrise or sunset, in a beautiful location. My subjects were framed by the rule of thirds and my edits were alwayssssss cursed by the bright circle of death (you know the one - exposure and highlights all the way up right in the centre of your subjects face) while these things served me in the moment, my images fell flat. They looked like everything else you'd see when you looked up "family photos" on a pintrest board in 2016.

But I wanted more. I wanted editorial, I wanted cinematic. I wanted to capture images that evoked emotion and told a story to whoever saw them - not just my subjects.

Some of my best work has been taken in a ditch on the side of a busy road. It has been taken in harsh sunlight on a hot midday arvo. In a lived in house where love, not dishes were the priority. It all comes down to one thing - observing. Noticing. Appreciating the little moments that intertwine to create the love we feel and the stories we tell.

It doesn't matter if you dont have the perfect location, whether its raining, cloudy or the harshest of sunlight. Find the beauty of the moment and roll with it

This session was pure Serendipity.

I met the lovely Romy at 9am on a cloudy morning while she was getting her car serviced. Like a mad woman, I asked if I could come over later to take her maternity photos. By 3:30 I was at her dreamy cottage farm soaking in the golden hour light. Guys, this is literally what pintrest boards dream of

Curating Connection -
Storytelling and Candid are two of the biggest buzzwords in the photography space right now - and for good reason. If you're an aspiring photographer or new to the game, you've probably heard these terms before and wondered how you can transform your galleries into cinematic experiences for your clients

Let's break it down one word at a time:

The word Candid, by definition, means truthful, natural unposed moments that unfold without the subject knowing they're being captured. While that sounds fantastic, it can be almost impossible to achieve when you've literally scheduled in this specific hour to shove a camera in these people's faces ðŸĪŠ

If Storytelling is your style, or the style you aspire to as a photographer I raise you this:
Instead of chasing candid, focus on curating connection. Direct your clients in a way that allows them to relax and interact with each other and their surroundings.

Not sure what that looks like?
Comment PROMPTS below and I'll PM you a quick guide to Curate Connection.
