For the longest time, I have tried to avoid photographing birds on man-made structures. I am a purist when it comes to the natural world; I like to present it in a way that shows it removed from the impacts of humankind.

As time progresses, it's very hard to find many places where humanity's dominance over the planet is not apparent. That's why I feel it's more important for photographers to present a view of the world without humans.

Even so, I thought I would post this photo. I liked the leading line created by the fence railing. It leads your eye into the photo and right to the bird.

This shot was taken at the beautiful Ebor Falls in NSW. It wasn't a very nice day; there was thick cloud cover, and it threatened to rain every moment. Even so, I managed to get some good shots.

What is your view on the state of the natural world? Do you believe we will learn to live in harmony with the natural world? Comment below.

A Pied Stilt wades out into the shallow water in search of breakfast. I love taking reflection shots like this. There's just something about that mirror effect that lifts the image. What do you think? Comment to let me know your thoughts.

I thought I should post to let you all know that I will be taking down my Barry Callister Photography website. The site is costing me too much, and it's time to let it go.

In the future, I may decide to rebuild the site just as a portfolio, but for right now, I have to let it go.

I will continue to post my photos here on my page for you to enjoy.

If you are interested in buying my nature photography products, you can do so by messaging me here on Facebook or going to my Redbubble profile https://www.redbubble.com/people/barrycallister/shop.

That bendy neck?!

It may not look like it, but with that neck, an Australasian Darter can swallow fish much larger than its head.

On the cliff top, high above the water, the master fisherman enjoys his catch. Read the first comment for an interesting fact about how an Osprey carries its catch when flying.

An Eastern Spinebill. Taken in your garden, May Callister.

Janet Callister, Jules Schmidt, that garden is a credit to both of you. You've managed to attract so many bird species all by simply planting the right plants.

Build it, and they will come. ☺️

This is the Restless Flycatcher that was visiting our backyard daily for a while. I haven't seen him in a little while. I hope he'll be back again soon. He's such a beautiful bird with a crest comparable to some hummingbirds. Read the first comment for another fact about this species.

I took a whole series of photos while this Pied Butcherbird worked out how to get this larva out of the cocoon. I'm sure it does it all the time, but it seemed to take a minute or two. It had to whack it on the branch a few times, and grip it just right to finally be able to seize the larva in the tip of its beak and pull it out. Birds are so resourceful.
