A selection of our favourite still shots from a recent project with Tourism Queensland on Heron Island 🎥

Which one is your favourite?

Our team shot these stills alongside an array of films with Tourism on and in 2023 in a project designed to highlight the magic of The Southern Great Barrier Reef region.

Photographs captured by our DOP and photographer

Our team ran all aspects of the production from pre-production, acquiring film permits, scheduling operators, and managing talent, to on location production and managing run sheets, through to post production, where our in house editing team sorted through terabytes of footage and raw imagery to deliver a range of films showcasing the glory of the Southern Great Barrier Reef, and an array of still images.

Mountain Biking | The Steps Bike Park 🚵‍♀️

This fast paced, adrenaline fuelled edit was produced by our team Descent Productions for Destination Barrington Coast

This shoot was a lot of fun, but given how long each shot took to set up, with the riders having to walk 15+ minutes back up to the top every take, we really had to bring our A-Game and needed to shoot for the edit, (and off our storyboard) to minimise unnecessary takes.

An epic shoot with Destination Barrington Coast and The Steps Barrington

Wingham Music Festival 2022 🎸

This is the hero promotional film our team produced for the festival, combining all of the best footage shot across all 3 days, and all 3 headline acts.

In late 2022 Descent Productions worked with Destination Barrington Coast and Wingham Music Festival to film the 2022 After Film for Wingham Music Festival. In addition to this, our team produced 6x same day edits over the 3 day music festival, designed to provide bi-daily updates and keep building momentum for the festival. This meant that we really had to shoot to edit, and required a post production studio to be set up on location for quick turn arounds.

The Barrington Coast team required a film production team with a diverse skill set who were capable of capturing the fast moving action, in addition to being able to provide high quality fast turn arounds for content. Our team ran all aspects of the production from pre-production through to post production, where our in house editing team sorted through hundreds of gigabytes of footage to deliver a number of promotional films, and 6x same day edits. This was a full on few days filming, but having a good crew on location makes it all that much smoother!

Urchin Corals Trailer 🎥

Last year we had the opportunity to create two distinct film pieces to accompany an ocean art design project led by Pirjo Haikola which was displayed in the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne 2020 Triennial Exhibition and the 2021 NGV Exhibition ‘Sampling The Future’.

These two pieces tie together the story of Port Phillip Bay, in Melbourne’s Sea Urchin problem, and Coral Bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef, offering a solution founded in design and science.

This project which stretched over 2 years, is one we are incredibly honoured to have been a part of, and look forward to continuing to build out as the story develops.

This is your guide to the best Scuba Diving on The Great Barrier Reef out of Cairns.

The Reef out of Cairns is just epic, particularly if you know where to look! As a landmass the Great Barrier Reef is bigger than Germany, bigger than Japan, and as long as the distance from Vancouver to Mexico. In short, its gigantic. And this is your guide to some of our favourite reefs and sites!

This is your guide to the best places to snorkel on The Great Barrier Reef out of Cairns.

Before we get started, there are over 3000 individual coral reef systems on the Great Barrier Reef. The reef is larger than the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Holland Combined. In other words it's enormous, and creating an all inclusive list is next to impossible. But these are some of my favourite places to Snorkel on The Great Barrier Reef out of the Cairns, Queensland region.

The sites we visited are:
The Frankland Islands, with Frankland Islands Reef Cruises. The highlight underwater attraction for us was no doubt seeing Manta Rays. We had 2 of them around us just at the edge of our line of sight for approximately 10 minutes. The Cabbage Corals are also incredible, and there's a large number of True Clownfish (Nemo).
