💚🏉 Remembering Ben “BJ” Hunter 🏉❤️

Ben “BJ” Hunter was one of our own — a proud Nambour Junior Crusher who was playing in our Under 16s and the Falcons Cyril Connell side when his life was tragically cut short while travelling home from extra training.

BJ was a shining light within our club and the wider rugby league community. Respected by teammates, coaches, opponents and supporters alike, he was an outstanding young footballer whose talent was matched only by his character. Always wearing a big smile, BJ brought energy, passion and positivity to every training session and game. His love for rugby league and everything it stood for was clear for all to see.

Although his time with us was far too short, the impact he made on our club will last forever.

Each year we proudly hold “Round for BJ” in his honour, ensuring future generations of Crushers understand the legacy of a young man who embodied everything our club values. As a lasting tribute, the  #11 jersey has been retired across all Nambour Junior Crushers teams, a symbol of the respect, admiration and love our club continues to hold for BJ.

He will forever be remembered not only for the player he was, but for the person he was — a teammate, a mate, and a true Crusher.

Lest we never forget his words:

“RUN IT STRAIGHT, TACKLE WITH PURPOSE.”

I've been around the womens game since it started on the Sunshine Coast as a player and now a photographer. I've seen teams build and grow apart and seen teams get flogged. I see Stanley showing up each week and while they may not be winning games, they're still showing up. Each team in this comp has been in that position of not winning games. I do hope they stick with it and keep building. We need to keep the womens comp going and encouraging teams to build and keep showing up.
