So very fortunate to come across the little beaches of Holmen in Norway's Vesterålen Islands just as the ice on the fjord was separating into perfect sheets and groaning its way to the shore. The unbelievable thing was that every shard of ice had disappeared off the face of the earth by the next morning!

A brilliant day of clouds and reflections on Back Beach in northern New South Wales. It's days like these that the skies seem completely impossible, consuming the scene and wrapping it in magic.

The delicacy and subtle hues of the sands of Knifeedge Sandblow on K'Gari (Fraser Island). I am always awed by the colour changes that the time of day works on such scenes. It crafts new watercolour looks on seemingly straightforward locations with every passing hour. Magic.

The simple beauty of water lily pads and their striking presence on a dam's calm waters. Clean lines, silvery touches, gentle curves. Never the same twice.

The spectacular scenery around Iceland's Lake Myvatn, a shallow volcanic lake known for its geothermal activity, its otherworldly scenery, the colours that present themselves. The area has been shaped by volcanic eruptions, creating some of the most beautiful scenery in Iceland and its most popular destinations for visitors.

It all happens on K'Gari (Fraser Island)! Don't think it quite registered with me when I was taking this shot that so many components had lined up - aeroplane coming in for a beach landing directly over someone four wheel driving up the shore, and right behind them both in the distance the ghostly shadow of the "Maheno" shipwreck surveying the scene. Oh, and not to mention me in the firing line of it all!

Surely there can be no bigger personality in the world of Australian parrots than that of the exceptional sulphur-crested cockatoo. Highly social and intelligent, these birds can live to about 40 years of age in the wild, and I'd wager that much of that time is spent skylarking and cavorting whenever they get the chance. Today I'm sharing a series of my favourite sulphur-crested cockatoo images having fun and messing around in the Bunya Mountains, Queensland. Hope they bring as big a smile to your face as they do to mine.

A cable car ride up to the Bastille fortress in Grenoble, France, offers expansive views over the city and across to the Alps, a truly breathtaking sight at any time. But watching from the Bastille as a major storm rolls in is as dramatic as it comes, a perfect location to trap sensational clouds in their path as they sail over the surrounding mountain ranges and make to sweep down to the rivers below.
